The Rose-Red City Lost to Time

Petra, Jordan

Petra is an ancient city in southern Jordan carved directly into rose-colored sandstone cliffs by the Nabataean civilization more than 2,000 years ago. Once a major trading center linking Arabia, Egypt, and the Mediterranean, Petra thrived due to its strategic location and advanced water-management systems. The city is famous for monumental rock-cut architecture such as the Treasury and the Monastery, as well as hundreds of tombs, temples, and ceremonial structures. Petra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most significant archaeological sites in the world.
