Few are those in the Mexican/Latino diaspora who do not recognize the Loteria images. Universal symbols as recognizable as the Virgin of Guadalupe or the Mexican flag. I have always been drawn to powerful imagery and the symbols that make up the fifty four cards of the Loteria sweet gradually burned into my imagination. I found I wanted to reshape them in stark black and white, to sear them into the viewers subconscious, to enhance the spirituality that these powerful symbols imbue. I mean these images of contrast to be ornamental an to have a liberal distribution, so I have placed them so they can be on as many varieties of clothing and objects that are available, for it is my intent and desire to enhance the prevalence of this collection of symbols that have become profane and almost sascred.
