Lost & Found: Traces of Early Music

An International Colloquium on Fragmentology

Cascais, Portugal  | 19-22 July 2023

Colloquium venue

The colloquium will take place in the auditorium of the Centro Cultural de Cascais, headquarters of the Dom Luis I Foundation. The building was originally a convent of Discalced Carmelites, the construction of which was completed in 1641. The 1755 earthquake left it almost completely ruined. Rehabilitation and adaptation to new use began in 1994. Having opened in May 2000, it is nowadays one of the main cultural facilities of Cascais. The Cascais Cultural Centre and surrounding museums and monuments permanently hold important Art exhibitions, especially Painting, Drawing, and Photography.

The auditorium was formerly the convent church. It has become a multifunctional space, fully equipped to hold conferences, seminars, performances, and recitals.
