Hi! My name is Ellen Walkingshaw and I'm a MA Folklore Studies student at the University of Hertfordshire. I have been obsessed with all things magical ever since I was a child, and after studying Early Medieval popular magic for my BA Theology and Religion thesis (University of Oxford) I fell headlong into the rabbit hole of Folklore Studies.
I started this blog as a place to share my research outside of traditional academia, and to give me space to write some shorter folklore pieces. As I also have a background in Theology, I also write a lot about religion, particularly lived religious practices.
My main research interests are:
The social relationships between humans and the supernatural
Folklore of the domestic space
Angels in contemporary society
The relationship between folklore and organised religion
The intersections between folklore and geography
However, I am always finding new sources of folklore, so expect plenty of media commentary, everyday observations and historical folklore!
If you want to chat about folklore, religion, or anything of a whimsical nature, you can find me on Twitter @ellenwalky, or email me at ellen.walkingshaw@yahoo.com.
