Probationary Officer is the rank assigned to all new members of the department. Probationary Officers are required to complete three ride-alongs per our FTO program guidelines, in order to be certified for solo patrol and eligible for promotion.
Once a Probationary Officer is eligible for promotion, he/she will be promoted to the rank of Patrol Officer, except for in certain circumstances in which a PTP may be promoted to Senior Officer.
Directly above the rank of Patrol Officer, is the rank of Senior Officer. This is also the rank of all reserve officers.
Officers Promoted to Corporal have shown knowledge in Law Enforcement, and have shown an ability to be thorough, thoughtful, and professional in all aspects of the job. These Officers will be looked at for Supervisor Positions.
The last Member Rank is the rank of Senior Corporal. Officers are promoted to this rank because they have shown the ability to be thorough, and professional.
Sergeant is the first rank of Supervisor Staff. These officers have shown knowledge and professionalism. They are to watch over and help other Members of the LSPD.
Staff Sergeant is the next rank directly above Sergeants have an increased responsibility within the department and supervises the department's FTO program. Staff Sergeants directly supervise the department CPLs. Staff Sergeant is also the last rank before becoming a Department Staff member.
Members of this rank have shown increased dedication to the department as well as proven proficient in their field knowledge. Lieutenants are also responsible for supervising the FTO program, managing department rosters, and managing patrol log reports.

The rank of Captain is the last staff rank Before becoming a department head They answers to the Commander and Chiefs. Captains are In charge of investigating Internal Affair complaints, and Overseeing all Department Staff.
Commanders Third-in-command for the operations of the department. The Commander is the LSPD's Chain of Command Supervisor and the Professionalism and Ethics Supervisor
Deputy Chief of the Police is the second-in-command for the operations of the department. The Deputy Chief is in charge of overseeing all patrol and sub-division workings
Chief Of Police is the highest rank in the structure. The Chief is responsible for supervising the overall operation of the department and ensures that subordinates are operating in a proper fashion.
