Introduction
Okay, let us dive right into everything I know about our planet. I know the earth is round, I know not as impressive, but I also know because of how careless we have been about our planet that it is effecting global warming. My take from this is it is slowly getting hotter and hotter and I am not 100% sure if this means the overall temperature has not been declining or if just during the summer the temperature no longer sets any lower than what it used to be. As far as us humans living on this planet, this means our future here is not looking very safe. There are not enough people involved with trying to preserve our planet and there is not enough knowledge out there about this, therefore we are looking into a pretty terrifying future here on Earth. For our student objectives at this time I do not feel too comfortable with these topics. The earths inferior dynamics and its relationship with Plate tectonics forming plate boundaries is something I recall learning in 7th grade maybe. What I do remember from this topic was this is how earthquakes happen and it shifts the plates into creating layers? I think that's what their called. As far as naming rocks based on their physicality I cannot recall a thing. I know some physical properties may include being shiny or having certain carvings on them. Analyzing geological deep time and the chart to my recollection has something to do with some sort of time frame with the earth evolving, maybe? This semester I would like to focus on geological deep time to learn how our geological history has changed and why or how it did.
Goals and Objectives
My SMART goals is to utilize as much knowledge I learn from this course and bring it into my everyday life. I know I will have made some type of difference by this technique when I can impact someone in small talk or change my own habits based off the information I take from here. I will be making any changes I can to help spread the word to friends and family and educate amongst those that are not. I plan to accomplish this by the end of the semster or however sooner I can.
If this class were graded my realistic goal for this class would be to maintain the highest grade I could considering my life outside of the classroom.
Methods
Some specific steps I am taking to achieve my goals are to include my class excitement in my everyday phone calls with me boyfriend or my sisters at home. I have not learned much but so far I have shared everything going on in this class with my boyfriend over the phone, he is up north firefighting and we have a phone call everyday after their dinners and I have shared all the upcoming assignments and my excitement to be here. Some things I can think of to asses growth in this class are developing genuine interests in the topics we discuss. My thoughts on the ungrading idea are pretty frightening since it is not something I have done so I can not expect what I am used to and the 'not knowing' gives me anxiety. I cannot prepare myself mentally for something I am not used to. I do look forward to learning new teaching method though its a scary, exciting feeling.
Anything else?
Well, I hope to have a great first and last semester here at vvc. I transferred over from Mt. Sac and have been attending online courses all year and I am now here for this course and this is also my last semester here, I will be on my way to transferring out to Cal Poly Humboldt.
