Period: 2022 - 2025
Topic: The SERMAS project aims to address the current limitations in social acceptance of eXtended Reality (XR) systems by developing the SERMAS Toolkit, an inter-disciplinary methodology and set of tools designed to simplify the design, development, deployment, and management of socially-acceptable XR systems through case-study-driven scientific and technological approaches, ultimately enhancing competitiveness and facilitating wider adoption in industrial applications.
My role: Responsible for the robotics activities
Funding: PR-FESR 2023-2027, Emilia Romagna Region
Period: 2023 - 2025
Topic: AGRARIAN is a heterogeneous data and image collection system in precision farming, specifically applied to the vineyard sector, utilizing mobile sensors for on-site analysis of environmental parameters, vegetation indices, and soil conditions, providing real-time information on crop health for potential early detection of biotic adversities and enabling precise and localized interventions, with the collected data facilitating mapping, historical tracking, and the development of machine learning algorithms and predictive models for optimizing resource usage in a circular economy perspective and supporting certifications for quality and sustainability in agriculture.
My role: Project coordinator
Funding: PRIN 2022, Italian Ministry for University and Research
Period: 2023 - 2025
Topic: The AI-DROW project aims to develop an autonomous, multi-aerial robotic system using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) equipped with sensors and machine learning approaches to inspect crop fields, detect, and safely push away wild animals, particularly focusing on addressing human-wildlife conflicts and reducing agricultural losses caused by intrusions, with a centralized system coordinating the UAV fleet and dynamically adjusting the number of drones based on battery status for continuous monitoring.
My role: PI for the local unit
Funding: PR-FESR 2023-2027, Emilia Romagna Region
Period: 2023 - 2025
Topic: The project aims to create a robotic manipulation system for delicate products without programming, utilizing a sensor-equipped glove worn by an operator to teach the robot the manipulation of a new component through AI algorithms that analyze hand movements and pressure, allowing the system to autonomously replicate the operation and adapt to process variability.
My role: Responsible for the robotics activities
Funding: Italian ministry of health
Period: 2022 - 2025
Topic: The Lively Ageing project aims to establish a large-scale laboratory for the use of advanced technologies, including domotics, sensors, and robotics, in protected environments (mini-apartments and day centers) across the municipalities of Modena, Carpi, Reggio Emilia, and Parma, with the integrated involvement of key stakeholders in the social-healthcare sector and seven departments of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, focusing on implementing a reticular model of care and well-being for the elderly through multilevel governance, technology integration, and collaboration with local authorities, healthcare companies, and public service providers to enhance the quality of life, autonomy, health, and dignity of the elderly population.
My role: Project coordinator
Funding: PRIN 2020, Italian Ministry for University and Research
Period: 2022 - 2025
Topic: The main objective of COWBOT is to develop a novel robotic solution for precision livestock farming (PLF). The proposed solution will be realized as a novel concept of heterogeneous team of robots, composed of quadruped robots and drones, to be deployed in farming facilities with the aim of monitoring and supporting daily activities.
My role: PI for the local unit
