Lorenzo Ciardo

I am a tenure-track Assistant Professor at TU Graz, where I am part of the newly established Institute of Algorithms and Theory. My research interests are mostly in the areas of computational complexity, discrete mathematics, and quantum information.

Prior to joining TU Graz, from December 2020 to June 2025, I was a Senior Research Associate at the University of Oxford, Department of Computer Science, working in the group of Standa Živný on variants of the constraint satisfaction problem. At Oxford, I also held the position of a Junior Research Fellow of Kellogg College

I obtained my Ph.D. in mathematics in December 2020 at the University of Oslo, where I worked in matrix theory and spectral graph theory under the supervision of Geir Dahl. Previously, I studied mathematics and quantum theory at the University of Turin, the University of Paderborn, and the University of Waterloo.
