Attendance within students have become a very important and serious matter. Within the student being present within the class it can possibly guarantee the student for a positive future in many aspects . The attendance being an important matter also helps the student learn responsibility and hep them grow as the young adult that they are. Through a conversation between a student that doesn't believe attendance should be so important speaking to a teacher who values attendance it began to help others better understand why attendance should become compulsory.
Within a school day a student decides to conference with a teacher with the office hours , to talk about a problem occurring with a student and how its is affecting her grades.
"Hello Mrs Arthur "
Oh Hey Maria,Your late again today and have been missing the past couple of days, Is everything Okay?
"Sorry Mrs Arthur I've been going through something recently , But im here now . In a positive manner"
"Well I'm glad you are finally here today because I feel that you have possibly missed some important work and you do realize that your midterm is fastily approaching
Maria with a surprised face responded " Omg I totally forgot about midterms ! ... I haven't studied for any of it ! "Do you think I could have some extra credit work to try to make up for what I have missed"
Mrs Arthur responds "No within being in class it fully prepares you to have all of the knowledge that you would've needed for the Midterm.
"If you would've also completed the previous work we had before coming into the class it could've helped you better understand the concepts that we have been going over."
Yes I Understand Mrs Arthur but really I haven't had a motivation for school I would like to talk to you about somethings that have been concerning me though it is positive in a way."
"Whats going on ?" Mrs Arthur says.
" Well I just feel that my attendance has been affecting my grades"
Mrs Arthur States "Yes I can agree with that your attendance has been low but improving your attendance can prepare you for the future things that you have upcoming. Within being present and attending school consistently it can build your skills and progress within learning"
Ultimately schools should make attendance mandatory in order for positive results in students, It is the baseline for the success of students.
Maria " I totally disagree with that"
Mrs Arthur states" well why do you disagree"
Maria says " I believe that attendance shouldn't be mandatory because we all live our daily lives , our education and success is based on the amount of work we know we can complete. Also because their could be extenuating circumstances such as a medical emergency lack of childcare and etc that could prevent you from attending class for that day or even for the full semester." Us as students also have days where we need mental breaks from school we may feel stressed out from our daily life and school work but ultimately many factors can contribute to the fact of students missing school.
Mrs Arthur then contradicts that point and states "Attendance to me personally as a professor I have witnessed that with attendance being a necessity I've seen growth within students that weren't doing very well in the beginning and at the end due to be committed to coming to class they were fully prepared for any task that was put in front of them. My whole idea as a professor of attendance being a necessity is to make sure that my students are engaged with my teaching, making sure that they fully understand the concepts that I give to them and so on"
Maria states " I can understand that idea of attendance being a necessity"
Both sides began to understand each others ideas and the situation became less tense due to the understanding of each other's ideas
Mrs Arthur then agrees with Maria and states' " yes but I can also understand your ideas of attendance being voluntarily because I myself as a professor have to have certain days off due to my personal issues as well, but the way that I stay prepared as a teacher is always to make sure that i am one step ahead of anything that I have to do and I would advise you to continue to do the same Maria
Maria Responds "Thank you sooo much Mrs Arthur this conversation has opened my eyes and give me a broader view of my attendance"
She then sates "I will now stay updated on all my work and continue to push to keep my grades up and stay prepared for the future events Thank you once again..
The two then left each other from the conference and went back on with their daily lives ....
Maria now with a new and different mindset moves in the most positive way and now always keeps all of her priorities in order.
She has created calenders and kept planners with her importants dates that are occuring o may be future events.
Within her schooling , She now has no repeated absences ,comes to class on time and he grades has been nothing but successful in all of her classes, due to the conversation between the two of them she has now fixed her occurring problem with her attendance
Mrs Arthur on the other hand has now implemented a more easy attendance policy with her students with her new and developed mindset she now gives caring advice to her students and understands their struggle when they miss school.
The whole confernece had a posititve effect on both of the individuals and has changed the two of them for the better it has helped them move towards a more positive and deveolpment lifestyle.
Within writing this paper it was pretty hard creating a story based on another persons view. It was hard to create a story due to the fact of you not fully understanding it yourself because you are the one on the opposing side so you have to fully understand the other side and relate. Within this assignment the research within writing the paper helped me understand how the view could be seen on both sides of the fence. The research aspect of the project was really helpful and pushed me to completing this short story on a subject that I didn't really focus on that much at first . In the beginning I am against the idea of attendance not being compulsory but i can understand how it helps the student grow and succeed in everything I see that it teaches the student values and responsibilities it helps the student have a broader mindset and know what the aspect of succeeding in everything means .
