Midori is a popular streamer on T****, known for her laid-back gaming sessions and a loyal audience that averages around a thousand viewers per stream. She lives in Sendai with her roommate, Yuki. Streaming alone doesn’t pay all the bills, so Yuki works nights as a hostess at a local bar.
One week, Midori decides to take a break from streaming to visit her family in Okinawa, where she grew up. In this world, a direct train to Okinawa exists—something impossible in ours—so she books a ticket and sets off. Her parents, along with her younger sister Aoi Muji, greet her warmly when she arrives.
The days pass in a blur of home-cooked meals and coastal sunsets. On the third day of her trip, Midori heads to the beach, where she meets two new faces—Ophelia and Mercury—and strikes up an easy friendship. While wandering the shoreline, she spots something glinting in the sand: a tarnished necklace, worn smooth by the sea. She pockets it, thinking little of it, and later tosses it in with the rest of her belongings back at her parents’ home.
The next evening, she attends a local festival. Lanterns sway overhead, music fills the air, and midway through the crowd she notices a cramped fortune-telling booth. The woman inside is pale, with eyes that seem to catch the firelight unnaturally. She beckons Midori in, leans forward, and says in a low voice:
"You will be expecting… an unpleasant event in your future."
Midori laughs it off, pays her fee, and leaves.
By the end of the week, she’s on the train back to Sendai. While unpacking, she notices the necklace again and, on a whim, clasps it around her neck. Almost immediately, a wave of exhaustion hits her. She removes the necklace, sets it on her nightstand, and falls into a deep sleep.
In the dark, the necklace begins to glow faintly… then cracks, the sound barely audible over the quiet hum of the city.
The next morning, Midori wakes and freezes. Her belly is round, heavy—visibly pregnant, as if months had passed overnight. Heart racing, she runs to find Yuki, but her roommate is out. Panicked, Midori rushes to a convenience store and buys armfuls of pregnancy tests. The cashier gives her a baffled look, as if to say, "Are you serious? You're clearly pregnant."
Every test reads positive.
Refusing to go to a doctor—out of fear, denial, or maybe both—she waits for Yuki to return. When she finally does, Midori tells her everything and shows her the impossible change.
That night, Midori decides to stream as usual, attempting to hide her belly from the camera. But as the hours tick by, the baby’s movements grow stronger, making her wince and flinch on screen. The chat notices. She ends the stream early and collapses into bed.
For now, she’s keeping the truth to herself—but eventually, she’ll reveal her pregnancy to her audience. When she does, the views and followers will pour in.
This is just the beginning of Midori’s story. More will follow.
