About the Author

William Golding was conceived in Cornwall, England, in 1911 and instructed at Oxford University. His first book, sonnets, was distributed in 1935. Following a spell in The Royal Navy during World war ll, Golding composed Lord of the Files While instructing school. It was the first of a few work, including the books pincher Martin, Free Fall, and The Inheritors and a play, The Brass Butterfly, which prompted his being granted the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1983.
