Meet Alysse Billings
Alysse Billings (She/Her) was born and raised near Amiskwaciy Waskahikan, colonially known as Edmonton.
Alysse has been involved with the Edmonton Theatre scene since 2013 when she joined the Youth Troupe at KidsFringe. She spent her summers during her adolescents developing her skills as a storyteller, and TYA performer.
She was introduced to the art form of clown at the Edmonton Fringe and fell in love! Shortly after her first year as a Ba/BEd at the U of A, she took her first introduction to clown through Jan Hendersen's Baby Clown Intensive in 2016.
She continued her clown education with Mike Kennard and his 6 mask approach to clown, and performed in the Rookie Cabaret at Play the Fool in 2019.
Alysse is an Educator by education and profession. She completed her undergrad at the University of Alberta in 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts in Drama and Art and a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Ed.
She went on to work with the organization United for Literacy as the Edmonton Community Coordinator in 2021 to present day. In this role, she collaborates with community partners, and volunteers to design inclusive education programs with the intention of building the confidence in others and empowering them to find their love of learning.
She also worked as an Edmonton Public School teacher at Kenilworth School from 2023-2025 teaching English, Social, Drama and Art.
This past year, she pursued the development of Loppity and the Star by enrolling in Christine Lesiak's workshops Clown 201 and Creating Narrative for Clown & Physical Comedy with her company Small Matters. Throughout the development of Loppity and the Star, Alysse considered how to model building healthy routines, bedtime hygiene and normalizing and validating the emotional experiences one might feel when they have to brush their teeth again.
Alysse is now pursuing further education in psychology, hoping to pursue a master in counselling in the upcoming year. She wishes to marry her love of storytelling, and her desire to help people make real change in their lives through her work and the art she makes.
