NOTICE TO ALL TOWN OF WAYLAND RESIDENTS (THAT INCLUDES LOON LAKE!)
The Town of Wayland has contracted with Garr Enterprises to collect data for property valuation beginning the week of October 6, 2025. (Residents do have the right to refuse Garr Enterprises permission to be on their property.) Every year, New York State does an audit of property values in municipalities and the TOW's equalization rate has dropped to 75% over the years. The state requires 100% equalization rates. Search property valuation on Google for a clear explanation of the term.
Discrepancy example: A recent lake property was valued at $228,000 yet recently sold for $560,000. That is a problem for New York State.
The final valuation notice/paperwork will not be ready to share with residents until late 2026 so.... no need to panic at this time. Questions? Feel free to call the Town of Wayland office.

Loon Lake Summer Fun!
Click here for the 2024 CSLAP report for Loon Lake. Data for this report was collected Summer through Fall of 2024.
The CSLAP team was scoping the lake yesterday, June 7, 2025. We are all aware of the growth of filamentous algae throughout the lake. In the deeper areas it hugs the weeds under water, shielded by the weed canopy. But in the shallows it gathers more light and nutrients growing into thicker mats. The linked article on the left reviews all we need to know about this algae, its benefits to the ecosystem and its nuisance behavior.
