LOOKING BACK
It's been over 37 years since I quit L'Amour.
For well over 30 years, I never looked back, until I was asked by the Failace family (owners) to come on Facebook to tell stories and try to get interest in a documentary (that fell through).
I am surprised I remember so many things and ecstatic that so many back up the various stories as accurate.
Perhaps not telling them for decades helped keep them accurate, I have no idea.
Since my return, a lot of people have giving me credit for things I don't feel i deserved.
Things like "breaking bands". There wasn't one band that I got behind that didn't deserve it.
They wrote the songs, rehearsed, invested in themselves and earned any opportunity I gave them.
It was my job as a booker, to book good bands.
It was my job as a DJ/programmer to play good bands.
I did my job and the band did their job, and it was a symbiotic relationship.
Taking credit for playing a good song is silly.
But I appreciate all the kind words.
When I quit in November of 1988, I knew at that time I made mistakes and have zero problem owning them.
From summer of 1988 on, I partied way too much. I can blame it on several factors, but ultimately it was my choice.
Leaving the club was the right move, but how I left wasn't.
I take full responsibility for that.
I broke my ass for the venue and was severely underpaid, but in no way did anybody take advantage of me.
For 49 months, the owners treated me incredible.
Many said no employee was treated as good in the long history of L'Amour (as I was) and for that I can't thank the owners enough.
The truth is, I never wanted to be a DJ, a booker, a promoter and in the club/venue industry, but for 49 months I was ... in the biggest hard rock/metal venue in the world.
It was a crazy run, and I hope those reading realize how appreciative I am of them.
Whether you were a patron or a band, I hope you understand how much respect I had for you and how treating you good was my priority.
I am not stupid and realize some bands thought they deserved more attention and some patrons wished they heard more <insert band> played over the massive system, but I did my best.
Being in dire health made me realize that looking back on life is a good thing.
Living in the past? Notsomuch, but I enjoy sharing the stories of that incredible era, while sitting home disabled.
Thank you to the L'Amour staff, owners, bands and patrons.
AH YES INDEED!
