The group of Laser Optics and Nonlinear Photonics (LONP) began its journey in the year 2010 (at the National Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhubaneswar, INDIA and it is relocated to Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Delhi, India in the year 2023. In the initial few years, the laboratory activities were mostly confined development of coherent optical sources using the methods of difference frequency generation (DFG), sum frequency generation (SFG), second harmonic generation (SHG) etc. Subsequently, the group began to look into various aspects of nonlinear optical spectroscopy where the physical properties of artificially synthesised materials such as long-chain complex organic molecules, nanostructures and grown bulk crystals etc. were investigated through capturing the third-order nonlinear optical response of materials. As a natural extension, the group also explored a wide variety of photonic sensing configurations using novel plasmonic and periodically-stratified photonic architectures. Since, all the aforementioned complex photonic systems involves electromagnetic mode-coupling in some form or the other, it was quite prudent to delve into exploring and understanding a geometric origin of electromagnetic coupling process and this began the groups journey in discovering the topology and symmetry in the photonic systems.

In the coming few years, the group members envisages to explore 'parity-time' symmetry in linear and nonlinear coupled photonic systems with an aim to devise robust, disorder resistant and efficient multifunctional photonic configurations. In the field of topological photonics, the group aims to provide disorder resistant transport of information (through optics) in linear, low loss photonic systems.
