Friends of the Longleaf Pines Board of Directors consist of four principals. The principals are Lesley Prochaska from Chalmette, LA; Shannon Eaton from Houma, LA; Alicia Dardar from Marrero, LA; and Rose Roussel from New Orleans, LA.
Girl Scout alum, Gold Award recipient and lifetime member, Lesley Prochaska is a geologist in New Orleans who grew up in Chalmette, LA. Lesley says, "I was very involved with Girl Scouting especially in the Mariner Program and was a troop leader for the past 7 years. I owe the foundation of my ethics and hard work from what I learned following the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Joining this amazing group of women is my way of honoring the countless volunteers that have had such a direct impact in my life and to hopefully afford those same opportunities for future generations.”
She received a B.S. and M.S from University of New Orleans. She enjoys camping, traveling, and gardening.
Girl Scout alum, Gold Award recipient and lifetime member, Shannon Eaton is an adaptive PE teacher in the Terrebonne Parish School District where she has served for 12 years. She volunteers for events hosted by The Louisiana Iris Conservation Initiative and The South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center. She also owns and operates Shannon’s Swim School LLC in the summer and serves as the board chair of the Houma based 501(c)7, Krewe of Tradition during Carnival season. “Girl Scouting has made an undeniable impact on the woman I am today. Through scouting I came to understand the dynamics of working with a group, a foundation that served me well throughout future endeavors and continues to do so with The Friends of the Longleaf Pines.”
Shannon has a B.S. in Human Performance from Nicholls State with added certifications in teaching secondary English Language Arts and Adapted P.E. Shannon holds a healthy natural environment and music appreciation to the highest regard for quality of life.
Girl Scout alum, Gold Award recipient and lifetime member, Alicia Dardar is an avid activist who fights for causes near and dear to her. She works as the Events Coordinator for the Autism Society of Greater New Orleans in addition to owning her own restaurant & game store. Alicia feels that her time in the Girl Scouts has helped mold her for the charitable work that she does today. “I really took the ‘To help people at all times’ part of the Girl Scout Promise to heart. Girl Scouts helped me hone my Leadership skills at an early age and gave me the tools I needed to be successful in life. Some of my closest friends today are women I met as a Girl Scout. I really would not be who I am today without my years of scouting.” Preserving CWP is important to Alicia because of the great memories she has from camping there. “I want to see future generations of girls have the same bonding experiences I had on the shores of the lake or along the trails. I did the work for my Gold Award in that Longleaf Pine Forest and it would absolutely break my heart to see it gone.”
In her free time - not that there is much of that - Alicia enjoys spending time outdoors and attending Comic Cons with her husband and two sons.
Girl Scout alum, active member, and Mariner Troop Leader, Rose is a financial analyst who grew up in New Orleans. She actively participates in Mutual Aid in New Orleans and is a volunteer cook for New Orleans Community Fridges. "I joined Girl Scouts as a Brownie. Though my mother was actively involved in Girl Scouts as a leader, I was never in her troop. This gave me the opportunity to learn leadership, accountability, service and compassion for my community, and the importance of conservation from an array of wonderfully strong women in addition to my mother." Rose spent many summers at CWP and numerous weekends clearing invasive species and planting Longleaf Pines. "I believe saving CWP is integral to preserving a nationally endangered ecosystem. I hope that future youth will have the opportunities I had to learn about conservation through hands-on activities in such a special place as Camp Whispering Pines."
She received a B.A. and M.B.A from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. She enjoys cooking, camping, fishing, and spending time with her husband and two children.
