Kathleen Kairns-Scholz -
President
Kathy received her primary training from world renowned former New York City principal dancer, Andre Eglevsky. Mr. Eglevsky and his wife Leda Eglevsky also a former dancer with NYCB, awarded Kathy a full scholarship to their studio until her graduation from high school. At age 16 she was asked to apprentice with the Eglevsky Ballet and later returned as a company member. At this time she worked under the directorship of Mr. Edward Villella. Kathy then joined the Indianapolis Ballet Theatre under the direction of George Verdak. After that she joined the Fort Worth Ballet now known as Texas Ballet Theater, as a soloist under the direction of Nanette Glushak and Michele Rahn. Kathy then joined the Richmond Ballet under the direction of Stoner Winslett. During her dance career Kathy was fortunate to dance lead roles in ballets choreographed by the late George Balanchine which include Tarantella, Who Cares, Rubies, Serenade, Allegro Brillante, Donizetti Variations and Concerto Barocco. She has also performed as the Snow Queen, Dew Drop Fairy and Sugar Plum Fairy in each company’s version of The Nutcracker. After her dancing career Kathy was asked to join the teaching staff at Frank Ohman School of Ballet and became ballet mistress with the New York Dance Theatre. Kathy then opened the American Ballet Studio in Bayport where she formed the American Dance Theatre of Long Island. Kathy is currently the Artistic Director of ADTLI, where she has held that title for the past 22 years and is the choreographer of ADTLI’s production of The Nutcracker. This is Kathy’s 2nd year as President of the Long Island Dance Consortium. She is married to her husband Michael and is the mother of Megan, Kevin and Kerri.
Tanya Neary - Vice President
Tanya is the founder and CEO of Stars of Tomorrow Dance Academy in Centerport NY, currently in its 23rd season, where she serves as Program Director as well as Choreographer for the competitive program. A student of dance since the age of 5, graduate of Long Island High School for the Arts and dance major at Hofstra University; Tanya still maintains a love of learning to better herself and the industry. She is a member of NDEO, runs 2 chapters of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts and is YPAD, PBT and Alixa Flexibility certified. Her passion for her students is matched only by her passion for helping fellow studio owners. As part of the Education Department at Dance Studio Owners Association, she works closely with studio owners to pursue growth in their business, hone their leadership skills and find harmony between work and home life. Tanya feels deeply that the LIDC can continue to expand and serve the entire dance community on Long Island. She is the driving force behind the Youth Choreographers Contest and is working to expand the scholarship opportunities we can provide. She proudly holds the position of Vice President for LIDC and will continue to work to attract like-minded members, while bringing more training and resources to the membership.
Toni Wortman - Secretary
Toni started dancing when she was 3 years old. She earned her BA and MS degrees from Queens College and taught first, second, and third grades in Port Washington.
After moving to Huntington, she returned
to her first love- dancing. She took classes with Sandi Bloomberg at North Shore Studio of Dance, became a member of North Shore Dance Theatre, and taught tap, jazz, and creative dance at the studio.
Toni is the Co-Artistic Director of The Red Hot Mamas. She served as President of the Long Island Dance
Consortium and currently serves as Secretary. She previously was elected as Vice President and a
member of the board of the Huntington Arts Council and currently is board member of Maccabi USA, a
national non- profit organization, where she served as President for 8 years.
Toni is married to Walter, an attorney. They have two daughters, two sons-in-law and four
grandchildren.
Lauren Bogovic
Lauren started dancing when she was 5 years old. She has been with Moves and Motions since the doors opened in 1987, first as a student and later as a teacher. Lauren has taught ballet, tap, jazz, and technique for several years. She is also an Assistant to the Director & on the Leadership Team. Lauren holds a degree in criminal justice, has attended Studio Owner University, and has completed Manager Training with More Than Just Great Dancing!® Lauren is a YPAD-certified instructor. She is happy to have served on the Board of Directors for The Long Island Dance Consortium since 2019.
Lauren is married to John. They have three children - Michael, Madelyn & Daniel and reside in Seaford.
