There is always more to learn and never enough time, so knowing how to manage one’s own learning efficiently and effectively is an ultimate life skill. But what does it mean to effectively self-regulate and be strategic in one’s own learning? The idea of ‘strategic’ learning has been explored from many perspectives across psychological and educational fields, yet much of the work remains siloed.
LONESTAR convenes researchers at Texas-based institutions of higher education bridging cognitive, social, developmental, and educational psychological perspectives to better understand strategic learning. For the 2026 meeting, the theme is Supporting Self-Regulated Learning Among Undergraduates.
The format of the meeting is an engaging and interactive unconference, with opportunities for us to find common ground through discussion, for scholars to receive useful feedback in designing projects aimed at promoting strategic learning, and to generate collaborative new research ideas.
SAVE THE DATE!
The 4th annual LONESTAR meeting will be held at Texas State University in San Marcos on May 19-20th, 2026. Applications to attend will open on January 15th and close on February 1st. Notifications of acceptance will be sent out by April 1st.
We extend a big thank you to our 2026 sponsor, Society for Applied Research in Memory and Cognition, who have provided funds through their regional meetings grant. This will keep the registration cost free to graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. This year, we will also offer a limited amount of travel awards to graduate students (details will be in the application form).
