LSRP prohibits retaliation against any member who reports or participates in an investigation to a possible violation of our Code, rules, or policies. If you believe you are being retaliated against, please contact any Senior Administrator.
Our members value LSRP not only because we offer a great atmosphere and high-quality role-play environment, but because our staff holds ourselves to a higher standard in how we treat our members.
Integrity
Our reputation is one that our members can trust and is our most valuable asset. All of our communications and interactions with our members should increase their trust in us.
Privacy and Security
Remember that we ask our members to trust us with their personal information at times, such as their email, or general geographic location. Preserving that trust requires that each of us respect and protect the privacy and security of that information. Access to this data is restricted in all available ways and should only be used by Senior Admins in extreme cases.
Responsiveness
Part of being useful and honest is being responsive. We should recognize relevant member feedback and do something with it. We will take pride in responding to communications from our members, whether questions, problems, or compliments. If something is broken, work to fix it.
We are committed to providing and operating in a supportive environment, where staff members always have the opportunity to provide their best work and opinion. Staff members are expected to do their best to create a supportive environment around them that is free of harassment, intimidation, bias or discrimination.
Harassment, Discrimination, and Bullying
LSRP prohibits Staff members from any verbal, textual, or visual bullying, harassment, or discrimination. If you believe you’ve been bullied or harassed by another Staff member, report it immediately to a Senior Administrator.
Working Together
LSRP Staff members will do their best to coordinate and work together on projects or issues in the community that best fit their personal skill sets. When the project or issue at hand is something you cannot help with, respect those working on it and be mindful of their needs. Remember, every Staff member at LSRP is volunteering their free time.
LSRP Staff members should be mindful of situations that could cause you to pursue a personal benefit for yourself or your friends. This is a conflict of interest. All LSRP Staff members should avoid conflict of interests that reasonably present the appearance of a conflict.
Friends and Relationships
Avoid participating in management or decision-making regarding potential or existing relationships you may have formed during your tenure. To be clear, just because a friend or close friend is involved in a decision you may need to make, does not mean there is a conflict of interest. However, if you are also involved in a situation which includes both yourself and your friend, it can be extremely sensitive. The right thing to do is to recuse yourself from the situation or seek guidance from your Chain of Command.
Romantic relationships between anyone in LSRP can, depending on your role and respective positions, present an actual conflict of interest. If a romantic relationship does create a conflict, it may require changes be made or even role changes to either or both individuals.
LSRP 's intellectual property rights (trade-secrets, code, database, servers, etc) are among our most valuable assets. Unauthorized use can lead to a serious loss for LSRP. Staff members will respect all copyright and other intellectual property laws where applicable. Just because a member has access to it, doesn’t mean the member can use it freely and openly.
Likewise, members will respect the intellectual property rights of others outside our community. Inappropriate use of other’s intellectual property may expose LSRP and yourself to possible criminal and civil fines and penalties. Please seek advice from Senior Admin’s before you solicit, accept, or use information from an outside source for something within LSRP.
We as staff, and as members have an obligation to act in good faith when it comes to issues, or topics that are brought up. This includes all current members, and the person in question in any situation. We as staff must be the stoics, for it is us that others look to for guidance. This means that we must temper ourselves for acting rashly, even when we have cause and reason to. Not to remove emotions or the like from our reasons, but to avoid others feeling that they are being pressured, or overpowered. It also means we act in compliance to the best of our abilities with our rules, policies, guidelines, but act in line with the spirit of them as well. We do what is morally and ethically correct not just for ourselves, but for others. Then we change to reflect that. When we make a decision on an issue, or spur action in another to act to do so, we must take into account what is allowed, and what is right. That we must act in good faith, and in the spirit of, over what we are permitted by the letter of what is written. To force us to ask the question; I can, but should I?
This drive to do what is right does permit issues that come up, may go against the rule; policies that are written, or the unwritten rules. A few things to keep in mind:
Anyone who makes the call to make a choice based on moral and/or ethical reasons (invoking in good faith) may NOT have any action taken against them.
The use of the in good faith will be reviewed by SA and Admin, viewable to all staff. If it is believed it is needed, by majority it may be pushed down to all staff to comment.
This is meant to fulfill two obligations:
As a learning experience for all staff
To ensure that the clause is being used properly
In either case of a pushdown or turnover a majority vote is needed
To help in difficult situations, where one or a group is in a situation that is ambiguous. So that after the review policies may be rewritten so they can better reflect what we wish to accomplish.
While this clause may be used in the moment by an individual or a group, you should whenever possible to get more views/opinions on the issue regardless of position within the community. It is always better to not make a decision in a vacuum. This is in no way a means to avoid making decisions with the group you’re supposed to be making them with.
There may be in rare extreme circumstances, that decisions may need to be made on a time sensitive matter. In these cases direct temporary action is needed to control the situation. A temporary action is permitted (like a mute or kick and whitelist removal) to quarantine the person or issue until the matter can be properly looked at.
The honor system applies, for all to hold themselves accountable.
Any action to abuse this clause, to subvert, sidestep or the like is considered a violation of this clause.
We aspire to be different, it is in our name, LSRP. It’s impossible for us to spell out every possible ethical scenario we may face. Instead, we must rely on one another’s good judgement to uphold a high standard of integrity for ourselves and our community. We expect all Staff Members to be guided by both this Code and the spirit of Mountain State Roleplay.
