I have always had an interest in teaching in a school, but that interest really stems from wanting to help kids in the school system. As stated previously, I want to become a teacher in the next 5-10 years, and perhaps ultimately become an administrator, or school social worker.
Becoming a teacher first became apparent to me in middle school, when I saw how teachers were often the school official that students interact with the most. They can have the most direct impact on a child's school experience besides their peers. However, my wanting to help students started in elementary school, where lack of resources and attention first became apparent to me. I have always gone to school in low-income areas, and seen how this can affect children. I would like to be able to provide children with access to essentials that they need in order to succeed in school. This is a huge motivator for me in becoming a teacher.
After completing my bachelor's in Educational Sciences in 2025 I plan to pursue higher education; a master's degree in Social Work. My long-term career goal being a school social worker. I would additionally like to have some years of classroom experience teaching before practicing social work in order to have a more well-rounded understanding of the schools and children. My dream job would be any job where I can personally make a difference in a child's life, whether that be by teaching or providing counseling and resources.
My most recent professional goal is to volunteer at the Florida Special Olympics, an opportunity that came from my class Impact of Disabilities. I believe this experience will be valuable to me in the long run and lead to my professional development. Additionally, I have experience being a teacher's aid at a local elementary school throughout high school, which I believe could be a good foundation for when I start classroom hours.
For the next 5-10 years I am also going to remain open-minded about jobs and job opportunities, while pursuing higher education. While I know my main aim, the best way to achieve this may reveal itself to me yet. Additionally, I am interested in pursuing higher education in both Educational Sciences and Social Work, and am still considering which path to pursue.
