LocQR
Location to QR Code Converter
Privacy Policy
Effective date: 01 July 2026 · Last updated: 01 July 2026
The short version: LocQR does not collect, store, or share any personal data on its own servers. There are no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no backend. Your saved locations stay only on your device.
1. Who we are
LocQR is an Android application developed by Megs inc. It converts map locations into scannable QR codes. Questions about this policy can be directed to the contact address at the bottom of this page.
2. What this app does
LocQR lets you:
· Tap any point on an interactive map to generate a QR code linking to that location
· Search for places by name or address
· Use your device's GPS to pin your current position
· Save named locations on your device for quick access
· Download or share the generated QR code image
3. Data the app processes
The table below lists every category of data the app touches, what happens to it, and who else (if anyone) receives it.
Data
1(a). Precise location (lat/lng)
2(b). Location you tap or pin
3(c). Search query text
4(d). Saved locations (name, lat, lng)
5(e). Map tile requests
Why it's used
1(a). Only when you tap "My Location" centres the map and pins your position
2(b). Generates the QR code and displays coordinates
3(c). Finds a matching place and centres the map
4(d). Lets you quickly revisit bookmarked places
5(e). Renders the map background image
Stored where
1(a). Not stored unless you tap "Save location"
2(b). Not stored unless you tap "Save location"
3(c). Not stored by the app
4(d). Your device only — never leaves the device
5(e). Not stored by the app
Shared with
1(a). Sent to OpenStreetMap Nominatim to resolve coordinates into a place name. Not sent to the developer.
2(b). Sent to OpenStreetMap Nominatim for reverse geocoding. Not sent to the developer.
3(c). Sent to OpenStreetMap Nominatim. Not sent to the developer.
4(d). Nobody — stored locally, never transmitted
5(e). Your IP is sent to the tile server (OSM, CARTO, or OpenTopoMap) via standard HTTPS request.
4. Third-party services
LocQR uses the following third-party services. The developer has no control over their data practices; their own privacy policies apply.
· OpenStreetMap Nominatim (nominatim.org/privacy.html) reverse geocoding and search. Receives coordinates and/or search text over HTTPS.
· OpenStreetMap tile servers (wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy) Standard and Terrain map backgrounds.
· CARTO tile servers (carto.com/legal/privacy-policy) Light and Dark map backgrounds.
All communication with the above services uses HTTPS (encrypted in transit). No data is sent to any developer-owned server.
5. Permissions
LocQR requests the following Android permissions:
Permission
1(a). ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION
ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION
2(b). INTERNET
Why it's needed
1(a). Required for the "My Location" button. Only requested when you tap it. The app functions fully without granting this permission.
2(b). Required to load map tiles and resolve place names. QR code generation itself works offline once a location is pinned.
LocQR does not request storage, camera, microphone, contacts, or any other permission.
6. Children's privacy
LocQR does not knowingly collect any data from children under 13. The app collects no personal data itself and is not directed at children.
7. Data retention
The developer retains no user data because no user data is ever sent to the developer. Saved locations can be deleted at any time from within the app, or by clearing the app's data in Android settings (Settings → Apps → LocQR → Storage → Clear Data).
8. Your rights
Because LocQR does not transmit or store personal data on external servers, there is no data held by the developer to access, export, or delete. For data held by third-party services, refer to their respective privacy policies in Section 4.
9. Security
All network communication from LocQR uses HTTPS. The app does not transmit data to any developer-controlled server. Saved locations are stored in your device's local application storage, inaccessible to other apps on an unrooted device.
10. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a material way, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date. Continued use of the app after posting constitutes acceptance.
