ALL NEW! Historic Lockhart Driving Tour
Lockhart has a rich history and the "bones" of the community are strong, with a vibrant commercial corridor, community service organizations, homeowner's groups, educational institutions and more. Commissioner Moore collaborated with local artist Lisa Mikler, to create a four-panel mural that depicts Lockhart from its early beginnings as a thriving lumber town on the Little Wekiva River, to a vision for its future.
Lisa Mikler painted a 123 ft. mural along Edgewater Drive - the main street of Lockhart. In fact, it is the oldest road connecting Apopka with Orlando, known as the "Old Dixie Hwy". We have enlisted students from 4 schools to paint, a dozen HOA's, civic groups and churches to supply volunteers, and local businesses to donate money and supplies. We have held collaborative meetings to engage the community and create a mural that tells the story of Lockhart's beginnings and visually imagines Lockhart's future.
Dedication and unveiling of the Lockhart Community History Mural. District 2 Commissioner Christine Moore and Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings joined the Riverside Elementary School Chorus, Riverside Rhythm Drum Core and guitarist Bobby Sander.
