Title: Machine Learning for Next-Gen Wireless Systems

Abstract: Machine learning (ML) has helped evolve a few engineering fields beyond what is possible with conventional approaches. Some of the best examples include computer vision, speech recognition, and natural language processing. With this confidence, many other engineering fields have been exploring the applicability of ML algorithms.

In recent years, there has been considerable interest in applying ML to communication problems both in academia and industry. Current literature in this area illustrates the increased importance. In this context, this talk introduces the need for machine learning in the existing and next-generation wireless communication systems. We start by introducing the evolution of the wireless system and highlight the complexities. As we delve into the talk, we show a few examples of ML applications and discuss the results and their importance. We further highlight the design principles to follow and the areas to focus on for further research.
