This privacy policy describes how the Local Notes mobile, web and desktop app ("the App", "we", "our") handles your information.
We collect nothing.
We send nothing off your device.
We have no servers, no accounts, no analytics, no ads, no tracking SDKs, no crash reporters, and no third-party data processors.
Everything you type, every folder, every tag, every export lives on your device only.
If you uninstall the App, every note is permanently deleted along with it.
The notes, folders and tags you create are stored in a local SQLite database file on your device. On Android and iOS this file lives in the app's private sandboxed storage; on macOS and Windows it lives in the user's Application Support / Documents directory; on the web it is held inside an OPFS-backed in-browser database.
We do not read, transmit, sync, back up to a cloud, or otherwise have any visibility into this content. We literally cannot — there is no backend.
When you tap Import the App reads the file you pick from your device. When you tap Export the App writes a file to a location you pick (or hands it to your OS share sheet). Files are processed entirely on-device. No copy is uploaded anywhere by the App.
Your appearance preferences (theme mode, text size) are stored in your device's local key-value store (SharedPreferences / NSUserDefaults).
No personal information (name, email, phone, address, payment info)
No account, sign-in, or device identifiers
No advertising IDs (IDFA / GAID)
No location data
No contacts, calendar, photos, microphone, camera, or health data
No analytics, telemetry, crash reports, or performance traces
No web cookies (the web build serves only static files)
The App is built to request the bare minimum on every platform. Here's exactly what each platform sees:
Permissions declared: None — the manifest contains no <uses-permission> entries.
Why: The App only reads / writes files you explicitly pick through the system file picker, and otherwise stays inside its own sandboxed app-private storage.
Permissions declared: None requiring a usage-description prompt.
Why: Files you import or export are handled by the system Files app, which manages any user prompts itself.
Permissions declared: User-selected files (read/write) sandbox entitlement and Downloads (read/write).
Why: Required so the Import / Export dialogs can open files you pick and save files where you choose.
Permissions declared: None.
Why: Uses standard user-mode file access — no elevated rights, no background services.
Permissions declared: None beyond ordinary browser storage.
Why: Notes live in your browser's local storage; exports use the browser's normal "Save As" download flow.
The App does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, regardless of age. The App is safe for children to use.
Because the App does not transmit data, there are no international data transfers.
Since the App does not collect, store, or share personal information, typical data-subject rights (access, rectification, erasure, portability, objection, restriction) are exercised directly by you on your device:
Access / portability: open the App and read your notes; tap Settings → Import / Export to export them as JSON, Markdown, Plain Text or PDF.
Erasure: tap Settings → Clear all data, or simply uninstall the App.
We are not in a position to honour these rights ourselves because we hold no data about you.
If material changes are ever needed, this document will be updated and the Last updated date at the top revised. The latest version always lives at the URL where you originally found this document.
