Lukasz M. Szewczyk - Talk IN Cold Spring Harbor 23/07/2022

July 23rd, 2022, Lukasz gave a talk during Cold Spring Harbor Meetings: Glia in Health & Disease 2022. During the presentation entitled Astrocytic β-catenin signaling regulates social behavior  Lukasz showed results of his postdoctoral project that aims to explain the role of β-catenin signalling pathway and its effectors in astrocyte development and function. Project that is carried on in a collaboration with prof. Anna V. Molofsky (UCSF) is financed by NCS grants Sonatina and Sonata.

Marcin Lipiec is among winners of the National Science Centre ETIUDA scholarship and foreign fellowship for advanced PhD students. He will spend six month in the laboratory of Michael Crair at the Yale School of Medicine to learn in vivo electrophysiology techniques. Huge congratulation!

New ARTICLE on Medium.COM

Lukasz M. Szewczyk together with machine learning engineers from SoftwareMill published an article on medium.com which presents created pipeline for finding and characterising astrocytes in microscope images was created. Published work allows our laboratory to detect astrocytes more effectively, and enables them to analyse their morphology, structure, number and length of their processes. This opens up new opportunities in analysing the cellular features of astrocytes, specifically its function and role in control of the processes of the brain.

Kacper presented himself very well on his final exams for the Master's Degree at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences SGGW. His thesis was on the impact of the TCF7L2 transcription factor on dendritic tree development.

Ola Stawikowska defended HER master thesis

Ola graduated with a Master's Degree from the Warsaw University of Life Sciences SGGW. Her thesis about energy metabolism in neurons was supervised by Kamil Koziński. Her presentation went very well and she passed the final exam with flying.

MARTA JANKOWSKA defended her master thesis

Łukasz and Tomasz were selected to present their awarded theses during the inauguration of the academic year 2017/2018 at the Ochota Biocenter (a scientific consortium of six research institutes located in the Ochota district of Warsaw). Łukasz completed his thesis under the supervision of Marta B. Wiśniewska at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology and Centre of New Technologies. Tomasz, a current member of our laboratory, completed his thesis under the supervision of Krzysztof Nieznański  at the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology.

Tomasz was awarded a 3-year fellowship under the scheme "Mobilność Plus" launched by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Tomasz will implement his project on The role of prions in the early biological evolution and their relevance to the origin of life in the laboratory of Lynn Rothschild at the NASA Ames Research Center located in California's Silicon Valley.
