Dr. Sharib Ali is an associate Professor at the School of Computer Science, University of Leeds, UK, and a visiting fellow at the Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford. He specialises in computer vision, medical imaging, and surgical AI and leads “AI for Medicine and Surgery” group.
He is one of the founding members of a non-profit research organisation in Nepal “NAAMII“, which is aimed at training students from LMIC countries and there he currently serves as a volunteering researcher position. He is an appointed member of the Royal Society’s Newton International Fellowships Committee and recipient of prestigious Springboard award from Academy of Medical Sciences and New Investigator Award from Engineering and Physical Sciences. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers included in top-tier conferences (MICCAI, CVPR) and journals (IEEE TMI, Medical Image Analysis). He is initiator of several data science challenges and workshops at MICCAI and IEEE ISBI. He also served as general chair for MIUA 2025 and programme committee member for IEEE CBMS, for which he serves as steering committee member now.
Dr. Patrick Godau is a Postdoctoral Researcher and lead of the Intelligent Systems in Surgery and Endoscopy subgroup at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). He received his Ph.D. in 2025 for his work on developing robust deep learning systems for computer vision in healthcare, focusing on transfer learning, meta-learning, and model validation. His research has been recognized with the MedIA MICCAI 2023 Best Paper Award, and he currently leads the development of Surgical Foundation Models at DKFZ.
Dr. Kyle Lam is a Clinical Lecturer in General Surgery at Imperial College London within the Department of Surgery & Cancer. He holds a PhD from Imperial College London and medical degrees from the University of Cambridge. As a surgeon-scientist, his work bridges clinical practice and engineering, focusing on the application of natural language processing and computer vision to surgery. He is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Prof. Miaojing Shi is currently a Full Professor at Tongji University, Head of the Department of Control Science and Engineering. He received his PhD degree with the Key Laboratory of Machine Perception, Peking University. He also engaged with a joint PhD program with the University of Oxford and INRIA Rennes. Prior to joining Tongji, he held a senior/lecture position at King's College London. His current research focus lies in multimodal learning and understanding with an especial focus on medical AI. He has received funding over millions from China (NSFC), EU (ERC), UK (EPSRC) and France (ANR). He has published over 90 publications with most in top-tier AI venues such as TPAMI, IJCV, CVPR, ICCV, NeurIPS etc.. and has also been regularly serving as area chairs for prestigious AI conferences such as AAAI, IJCAI, ACM MM etc. He was selected as forty under forty AI talents by La French Tech in 2018 and was the recipient of the F2 innovation award in 2018-2019 by France-China Committee. He is a Xiaomi Young Scholar, a Senior Member of IEEE, and a Fellow of HEA.
Dr. Binod Bhattarai is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at the University of Aberdeen, Chief AI Scientist at Fogsphere (Redev.AI Ltd) UK, and an Honorary Lecturer at University College London (UCL). His research focuses on machine learning, computer vision, and medical image analysis, with a particular interest in trustworthy AI for healthcare and safety critical environments. He has served as a lead organizer for multiple MICCAI workshops and is an Area Chair for MICCAI 2026.
