The newspaper article "State charter school caters to urban Native Americans" describes how some schools are now being created in order to suit the needs of Native American students in a way that teaches them regular school practices but incorporates knowledge of sovereignty, native languages, and how casino's came about.
I think this is a great idea! I really like the idea of having schools where Native American parents can feel comfortable about what their children are learning at school. They can feel secure that their children are learning math, science, language arts, and also their own history.
This shows me how much the education system has come. When Native Americans first went to school they were told things like "leave your Indian at home" and were forced to become Americanized. Now Native Americans are celebrated and appreciated.
