Call for papers (extended abstracts) deadline: June 3rd, 2024 Extended to July 3rd

Camera-ready deadline: August 5th, 2024
Workshop day: August 26th, 2024
LLMs in the RoMan Age is a workshop aimed towards exploring and engaging in possible social impact and implications for design and ethics of LLM for HRI from various disciplines. The scope of this workshop is within LLMs, we aim to keep its use cases and reflections broad. This in turns allows to cultivate an open conversation between researchers to spark discussions on how to to use LLMs and what for. We hope this potentially also offers a venue for future collaborations.
We welcome all topics related to human-robot interaction from a broad disciplinary spectrum, including contributions from computer science, engineering, sociology, psychology, gerontology, design, law and philosophy. While the written contribution must be evaluated based on its soundness, relevance, and originality, we encourage the authors to create a compelling presentation that can be easy to follow by all audiences within the HRI community.
Empirical studies: quantitative or qualitative interaction studies implementing LLMs into HRI and/or social robotics.
Interaction setups: HRI, social robotics and LLM interaction setups for particular applications and/or interventions or for particular target populations.
Design approaches: Studies on personality, behaviour, appearance, and voice of LLM integrated HRI and social robotics.
Ethical frameworks or considerations: Ethical concerns relevant to the integration of LLMs in HRI and social robotics, for instance, related to misinformation, deception, and overreliance.
DEI considerations: how Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is affected by the integration of LLMs into HRI and social robotics.
Multimodal Social signal processing: How to include both verbal and non-verbal signals in interactions with LLM based HRI and social robots.
Technical or methodological considerations: Issues, challenges, and/or constraints associated with integration of LLMs into social robotics.
We invite participants to submit a 2-page extended abstract (excluding references) on a range of topics relevant to LLMs in HRI in general. Submissions may present work-in-progress research, position papers, and summaries of already published research that are relevant to LLMs in HRI. Since our aim is to discuss and learn from one another, this allows topics that you think should be discussed in a interdisciplinary group.
All papers must be in the IEEE Conference format, the same as the main track at the RoMan conference.

Abstracts will not be anonymous but will be anonymously reviewed by at least two organisers, ensuring no conflict of interest. Authors of accepted papers will present at the workshop, either online or face-to-face. We will post the camera-ready versions of all accepted extended abstracts on the website as archival workshop proceedings. Please note that the workshop papers will not be on the main conference proceedings.
