Panoramic views and Pylons
Allow 1 hour 15 minutes for a slow, leisurely ramble
Gently rolling landscape, couple of steep banks which maybe muddy, and a gentle climb back to the village.
Approx 2.8km Timings and distances (in metres) are approximate and for guidance only.
A short leisurely walk crossing fields, some with animals and some with pylons and returning along the Llangrove road.
Start at the village hall. Pass the bus shelter and book exchange on the left and turn left at the T-junction with the road. Pass the school on the right and take the first turning on the right (32m), following the lane between the school and the church. Views across to Llangarron and the Malvern Hills open up as you descend.
213m: As you pass a modern house on the left and continue further along the lane which is now a track with an open field to the right.
260m: As you head towards a metal gate, look out for a gate and open gateway in the hedge on the right and go over it. Bear left down the edge of the field keeping the hedge on the left..
350m:Head towards a stile about 35 metres across from the corner of the field, cross the stile. On the other side of the stile the ground slopes steeply downwards so go carefully - walking sticks may be helpful. Follow the hill down but be careful of the very steep section close to the next stile at the bottom.
Cross the stile and turn left keeping the farm buildings to your right and Redwood House to your left.
430m: Continue along the gravel track toward a bar-gate.
524m: Cross the stile and follow a straight route across sloping ground towards the next stile opposite. To the right are open fields with panoramic views across rural Herefordshire with views towards Llangarron village which has the prominent church in the distance.
744m: Cross the stile into the next field. Bear left along the edge of the field keeping the hedge to your left. As the hedge turns again to the left, there is a stile on the corner on the left offering a shortcut across two fields back to the village. Option 1 After crossing the stile walk along the hedge, keeping the hedge on your left and then begin to climb diagonally across the slope towards where two hedges meet at a corner. At the corner continue to climb with the hedge on your right to a kissing gate in the corner of the field which is in front of you. Going through the kissing gate take the diagonal path across to a track and then turn right up the track leaving the field by a gate. Continue along the lane until you meet the main road through the village, turn left and follow the road downhill and back to the village hall.
Option 2 Do not climb over the stile but cross the field, joining the hedge line again, continuing to enjoy the panoramic rural views towards Llangarron and beyond on your right.
1.031km : Cross the next stile, continuing along the hedge line to the next stile and in to the next field.
Continue along the hedge line to the corner and then aim diagonally across the field keeping the pylon on your right aiming for a stile on the left of the pylon, in the middle of the hedge bordering the road. This is a good walk to do about an hour before sunset when the pylons can be silhouetted dramatically before a blazing orange sky providing inspiration for artistic photographers and artists alike. (If the path is blocked by a crop close to harvest time, instead of aiming diagonally across the field follow the hedge, keeping the hedge on your left until you reach the road. Turn right and follow the road looking out for a stile accessed by steps and continue as below.)
1.37km: Cross the stile in the hedge and turn left onto the road. A little bit up the road but on the right is a further stile, accessed by steps up a bank, providing a further opportunity for budding photographers to obtain arty shots of the pylons particularly in stormy weather or at sunset. To return to the walk route, continue to follow the road, walking on the right to face oncoming traffic but being particularly careful on wide bends.
1.918km: Turn left at the signpost to Llangrove. Pass the Royal Arms on the right, church and school on the left and turn right to return to the village hall to complete the walk.

At the end this road splits in to four tracks, take the third one from the left.

Go through the gate and continue on the path towards a gate with a walk through gate in it, at the top corner of the field. Go through the gate and join the track and walk upwards towards the main road. Turn left and then right, back to the village hall.

Do not go through this gate but look towards the bottom righthand corner of the field and walk across the field before leaving the field at a wide opening. Turn right and continue straight up a steepish hill before reaching a crossroads. The most direct route back to the village hall is to tun right at this crossroads and follow the lane back up to the school and the main road. Cross over the main road and return to the village hall.
Option 4.(slight slope) Follow Option 3 but when you find the gate in the hedge on the right, for a more level walk, go through the gate and continue left along the field boundary towards a metal gate and a kissing gate. Go through the kissing gate and turn right on to a track and then right on to the narrow lane back towards the school. Cross over the main road and return to the village hall.
Option 5. (slight slope) Follow Option 4 but after going through the kissing gate and walking up the track, cross over the narrow lane and follow the track opposite which rises gently before levelling out. As you get to the end, turn right along the road and walk towards the school, turning left, just before the school, back to the village hall .

On the other side of the stile the ground slopes steeply downwards so go carefully - walking sticks may be helpful. Follow the hill down but be careful of the very steep section close to the next stile at the bottom.
