Why Art ?

A picture paints a thousand words, It’s true! Barbara Tversky Stanford University Professor in the field of Cognitive psychology states, drawing..“a cognitive tool developed to facilitate information processing”.

Art supports the children’s eye-hand coordination and boosts the motor skills. It develops better concentration and focus on details which compliments the academic studies. For example, if we take kids to a park and ask them to study the trees, plants and the environment by feeling the shoots, buds, flowers, petals, tree barks, sky, clouds and encourage an outdoor painting, they can come up with a great art based on their observation.

Art education strengthens problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. The experience of making decisions and choices in the course of creating art carries over into other parts of life. Americans for the Arts 2015 report says, “Students with four years of high school arts and music classes have higher SAT scores than students with one-half year or less”. “The report further says, students who participate in arts both in school and after school, demonstrate improved academic performance and lower dropout rates”.

Pixar - A Collaboration between Art and Technology

Pixar on their website stated “Many people don’t realize that we have almost as many artists at Pixar working in traditional media—hand drawing, painting, pastels, sculpture—as we do in digital media. Most of their work takes place during the development of a project, when we’re working out the story and the look of the film. The wealth of beautiful art created for each movie is rarely seen outside the studio, and the finished film we send around the world would never be possible without it. “

Google has been hosting the Doodle for Google contest every year in the U.S. since 2008. It encourages students to use their creativity to design the google doodle and honor the winners. Also, Doodle for Google offers students K-12 an opportunity to display their own artwork on Google.com.
