Describe your action plan and how each of your four chosen competencies will influence its design and implementation.
Briefly, the plan Is to meet with the current BEA president and discuss what the RRT will look like and how it will be utilized within the BEA. He has already agreed to the idea, we just need to make it happen. Next, we will meet with (in-person, phone, or video conference, Amanda Curtis to identify how the MFPE rapid response team works. After that, we will build the system and send it out to members to sign-up if they choose. Once it is operational, the member chosen for management can continue its use. This will require the input and cooperation of the group and a lot of interpersonal communication amongst members of the association.
How will your leadership leverage the strengths and address the needs of diverse stakeholders to support the action plan, develop capacity, broaden decision-making, and learn collaboratively?
The hope with this project Is that my leadership through the use of an RRT will improve engagement and make it easier to address the needs of our diverse stakeholders. With increased engagement, there will be more voices in the decision making process of the BEA and people will feel as though they are more like participants in their union rather than members who allow others to make decisions for them. I intentionally reached out to a diverse group of stakeholders to get feedback from many perspectives. Those I reached out to represented members from the presidents of both the local and state unions and members who participate very little. I tried to be Intentional In picking speaking with members who vary in socio-economic backgrounds and those who currently live a variety of lifestyles such as those with large families and singletons or childless members.
How will you use collaboration, questioning, data, and reflection during the implementation of your action plan?
Ideally, after the first school year In which the Rapid Response Team has been implemented, we would like to send out a simple survey and ask those who participated if it was a useful tool. With that, we could also ask for feedback on how to improve or change it to make it fit the needs of our members better.
How will you address obstacles that you may encounter in implementing your plan?
The biggest obstacles will be time and personnel management. I have this idea to get the program up and running but I have taken on too much and I am struggling to find the time to work on it. Our president has agreed to help but unfortunately, he Is also struggling with time as he is often dealing with issues that require immediate attention whereas this is a low priority Issue. We need to address these by blocking out time throughout the summer and honoring those appointments. We also need to figure out how the actual RRT will be managed. Conversations with MFPE President Amanda Curtis will enlighten us as to how to do this effectively and what time/personnel management looks like.
How will you know if your action plan is successful? What evidence would support your claim?
I will know this action plan is successful if we see increased participation in events and more members reaching out to their respective districts. We have rough numbers for current attendance so it will be an easy compare and contrast. We will also seek direct member feedback through the use of surveys. The BEA has a good working relationship with a few members of the school board who will also be able to let us know if they are seeing an Increase in correspondence from teachers/members.
