District 02 represents areas within Sparta Township, Tyrone Township, and Alpine Township.
I am very excited to announce to my friends and family that I am officially running for Kent County Commissioner in District 2, which is Sparta, Tyrone, and Alpine Township! This is an elected position which requires votes from my local area, and I am excited to go through the election process as a candidate for the first time. I would be honored to represent the voice of everyone in these three townships on the Kent County Board of Commissioners.
If we haven't had the opportunity to meet, here is some info about me:
I have lived in Sparta my whole life. I married my high school sweetheart Josh Morse. He runs our family apple farm and together we have three fantastic children. I’ve worked for 18 years in the Village of Sparta in downtown development, the chamber of commerce, and events. I do not plan to leave my position; my boss has allowed me the flexibility to work this into my current schedule! (So no change there!).
I am excited to bring lessons I’ve learned through being involved in our community, helping small businesses, and collaborating to make positive changes. I am a conservative Republican, Farm Mom involved in the Kent County 4H Fair, and Business Professional.
I am beginning my campaign work and excited to learn a lot from this process, as well as dive deeper into the policies, challenges, and opportunities that affect our district at the county level.
I appreciate any support for the campaign ahead - if you are interested to have a sign in your yard, contribute to my campaign financially, or volunteering with us, please either let me know or sign up officially through this website!
Welcome to my corner of Kent County! I'm Liz Morse, a proud lifelong resident of this vibrant area. Having grown up attending Sparta Area Schools, I developed a deep-rooted connection to our town and its people, even voted "Forever Sparta Spartan" as a senior in high school mock elections. I've been happily married to an apple farmer, Josh Morse, for over 15 years and together, we're raising our three wonderful children in the serene surroundings of Northwest Kent County.
My journey led me to pursue a bachelor's degree in public administration at Grand Valley State University with an emphasis in Community Development. For the past 18 years, I've dedicated myself to making Sparta an even better place to live, work, and thrive. Professionally, I'm actively engaged with local community groups, including Sparta Community Works (formerly known as Rotary), where I contribute to initiatives that enrich our town's fabric.
Through all these experiences I have learned first hand that the role of government isn't to simply regulate, tax and sanction. Instead, I believe the government serves the people the best when it comes alongside those who have a vision and helps them clear obstacles and barriers to success. Innovation, creativity, and positivity have always made our community great. I want to be the voice for our way of life on the county commission and use my skills to build upon our past success, while also upholding our conservative principles.
Beyond my professional commitments, I'm deeply involved in activities that resonate with my family life. From supporting my kids in the Sparta Livestock Club to fostering a sense of community spirit by volunteering to build trails, clean up Nash Creek, or participating in local non-profit fundraisers, I believe in the power of collaboration to create positive change.
