Project "My Home"
[EN]
The project was started in 2022 by Belarusian, Georgian, Polish and Ukrainian artists for the purpose of helping people forced into refuge and to support specific families. These people had to leave behind everything material, even the most valuable, what constitutes heritage, what holds history and is one of the basic components of culture. By stimulating debate, fostering compassion and a sense of community, we contribute to building a more conscious and sustainable society, which in future and present will be able to resist xenophobia and build solidarity in the fight for freedom and justice.
The core of our project is to show the real history of emigrated family in local society environment that was forced to escape. Within the project we created a mural in Poland, which depicts refugees from the war: a young mother carrying her child like her home in her arms, into an unknown future and with the hope for a better life. The background is made up of motifs of folk art. The artwork was created by the art group Wow Wall Studio in the city of Śrem. Additionally, in accordance with the theme of project, the art curator Liza Kesauri organized an exhibition of Ukrainian photographer Angelina Storozhenko in the city where artist emigrated - Poznań and five cities of Poznań District (Poland). Our project is taking form of a series of murals bringing together local artists and citizens, art activists and art audiences in different countries. Together with our team we implemented this project in Georgia within the community building project of Art Yard Community.
Mural in Tbilisi presents a real Belarusian girl with her child, who moved to Tbilisi to her husband after giving birth. She wears a dress made from the patterns of the Belarusian national dyvan (handpainted carpet that is given as a holiday gift). The background consists of Georgian folk patterns from various fields of art - weaving, ceramics, and jewelry.
