Floral Park Recreation Center
In June of 1999, Elizabeth McFarland, a lifelong resident of Floral Park lost her courageous battle with breast cancer at the young age of 42. Ever since, Liz’s friends and family have come together each Fall to honor Liz and other victim’s by committing our collective energy, talent and resources to bring awareness to the community about the disease and raise funds for breast cancer research.
Over the years, the popularity of Liz’s Day has grown significantly and attracts an increasing number of participants to its recreational activities, live music and Chinese Auction. Entering our twentieth year, all proceeds from Liz’s day have been donated to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a private non-profit basic research institute in Cold Spring Harbor, NY. Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is one of the world's premier sites for understanding the genetic basis of cancer and is a National Cancer Institute designated Cancer Center. For more information, please visit their website at www.cshl.edu.
As part of our mission to bring breast cancer awareness to the community, various clinics from the Long Island area are also present to provide information on breast cancer and the research that is currently underway.
Come join us in our efforts towards building a healthier future. We hope you stop by the Floral Park Recreation Center on September 29th, 2018 to see what a big difference a small group of people can make!
