Liyana Sahir

Hello!

I'm a third year Computer Science & Engineering student from Government College of Engineering, Kannur. I've been in love with computers since the time I can remember. Being able to make it dance to my tune - or, you know, function according to my code - seemed like just the right step.

I was brought up in Kannur, Kerala, but completed my last five years of high school in The Indian High School, Dubai. Along with falling in love with Python, school was were I experimented with various interests like movie-making and journalism.

For the past couple years, I’ve been exploring my interests in robotics, web-development, and image processing. I like carrying my learning forward - I’ve facilitated classes in C, Python, and Arduino programming.

As a coordinator for the Women In Engineering affinity group in our college, I’ve coordinated techno-social events for women safety (Shein), as well as conducted sessions on engineering awareness for high-school students (Contessa). Currently, I'm the Chairperson of the ISTE Student Chapter of GCE Kannur.

I firmly believe that being able to impact even one person positively can have an unbelievable cascade effect, which is why I’m a huge proponent of carrying forth the stories of my failures as prominently as those of my successes. I recently began a #21DaysofCode challenge to bring consistency back into my coding habits, something which I had sidelined after dealing with severe imposter syndrome in the field. I’ve been blogging about my experiences with it on Medium.

“You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.”

― C.S. Lewis

This would be the perfect quote to sum me up. I also like writing and a bit of photography, which tends to come out in the form of Instagram posts with lengthy captions. What better way is there to tell a story? :)
