My Training & Instructional Approach
I believe students make the strongest progress when instruction is personalized, explicit, and based on how the brain learns. My tutoring approach combines evidence-based literacy practices with individualized instruction to help students build skills and confidence.
I am a certified elementary educator with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Mathematics and English Language Arts from Eastern Michigan University. My teaching certification includes the ZG endorsement for Elementary Education, which qualifies me to teach all subjects in kindergarten through fifth grade and self-contained classrooms through eighth grade.
I also earned my Master of Science degree in Education with a specialization in Elementary Reading and Literacy from Walden University, with advanced coursework focused on literacy development, reading instruction, and strategies to support students as they become confident, capable readers.
In addition to my degrees, I have completed training in evidence-based literacy practices, including:
✔ LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) – Science of Reading-based training focused on how students learn to read and how to provide effective literacy instruction.
✔ UFLI Foundations (University of Florida Literacy Institute) – Training in explicit, systematic phonics instruction that supports students in developing decoding, spelling, and word recognition skills.
✔ Structured Literacy Instruction – Explicit, systematic instruction that supports students in building foundational reading skills.
✔ Project Read – Multisensory instruction supporting phonics, decoding, spelling, and language development.
✔ Fundations – Systematic phonics instruction focused on foundational literacy skills.
Through my education and training, I provide personalized tutoring that meets students where they are and helps them build the skills and confidence needed for long-term academic success.
My goal is to help students become confident, independent learners by identifying skill gaps and providing targeted instruction that meets them where they are.
