Thank you for the reply so soon, @Jay !

I am very scared now that you said anything uploaded via the plus button resets the creation date. I have uploaded so much that way. I guess I just have to live with my files this way.

Live Photos is an iPhone camera feature that brings movement in your photos to life! Instead of freezing a moment in time with a still photo, a Live Photo captures a 3-second moving image. You can even create stunning long exposure images with Live Photos. Read on to discover how to use Live Photos to create unforgettable living memories with your iPhone.

I am having the same issue. All my pictures that were previously taken as live photos (that used to allow me to press and hold) now have been turned grey and show as videos on my phone, however on the icloud - the show as photos. I've searched numerous websites and still haven't found an answer.

I was trying to take screen shots of my live photo but it saved a copy of the live picture as a video which I want to do again but can't figure out how. Every site says I need Lively, but I did it without it!

Hi, I am currently having this issue. Did you find a positive solution?? I tried turning off live photos, then restarting my phone, but they were all still there as videos, and some of my photos are missing. I never plug my phone into my computer, I only did once to charge it and figured id upload everything because I never had. I'm nervous I ruined my photos ?

You should be able to see them without using 3D touch, that might be why they turn into videos. Just take a live photo and then go into your camera roll, select a different picture and then slide back to the live photo. You will then be able to see it move for a brief second. Live photos are still in the beggining stage, so they will have some bugs.

No, it is an actual video now, where you press start to play. How I know they are videos are because of how bad the quality of video it is. I know how live photo works, it's just I dont want to lose the photos from before.

SSame here. And that extra S is courtesy of my iPhone keyboard that somehow skips around with the cursor upon initial typing. How have they not fixed this yet? Buuuut yes I too am having the same misfortune. Living photos have now not only taken up twice as much space on my phone but ruined some of my favorite photos. Apple god tim ives, in the name of forstall help fix what you've dooooooiione

Anyway, the reason I'm asking the question is that I want to transition from using Apple photos to a plain folder tree in dropbox. The problem is having a good naming scheme to keep things sorted. I googled a bit and using Hazel (plus the script below) works just fine, if it weren't for the mov files of live photos. to sort all my photos (and live photos) with a decent naming scheme.

When working with live photos as separated JPG and MOV files, the metadata will allow you to link the files. The MOV file has an EXIF tag called ContentIdentifier that appears to be identical to the tag Apple_0x0011 in the MakerNotes EXIF tag of the JPG file.

Live photos were introduced with iOS9 in 2015 along with the iPhone 6S. Those are composed of a still picture and a small video. The video is always about twice the size of the picture. If you need the live picture, fine. But if you keep both and just need the stills, you increase the space taken by a picture by 300%.

Some of you pointed out that there is an app to do this: Lean. The App is supposed to do exactly this and only this: remove the live picture while keeping the still with all its metadata. So basically do that manual scenario for you. I tried it and faced only problems.

Live Photos aren't quiiiite video, but rather a full-on 12-megapixel photo that animates 1.5 seconds of motion before and after the still. Super cool, right? Yeah, we thought so. Live photos can be used to take action shots in which you can choose the best frame after. They can also be turned into boomerangs and gifs! Here's how to work with Live Photos.

As you can see, it's easy to create magical moments with Live Photos on your smartphone, whether you're using an iPhone 7 or an iPhone 14. It's a fun feature that definitely makes your photos come to life, and there's so much you can do with them.

If you're not ready for Live Photos just yet and you're still getting your head around photos that don't move, we have some simpler tutorials that might be good for you, like our how to crop and resize photos on iPhone and iPad guide.

The main reason people probably use it - to grab the best moment from a still photo. Like maybe somebody blinked just as you were taking a photo. You can adjust it to find a better face when editing the live photo.

Hi, I am backing up all my Live photos through the app so I can delete them from my iPhone and have more space, but when I downloaded one of those Live Photos from the My Cloud Home app it was downloaded as a .jpg and not as a Live Photo (this, for editing purposes)

Live Photos are like still photos, but when you hold your finger down on them, they "activate" and play a few seconds of video and sound. They're like GIFs with sound, and are a fun treat when you're looking back at your photos later. But they'll only work on Apple devices, and if you try to play them elsewhere, they'll just be still photos.

in ios 16, branded live wallpapers and special ones for the iphone xs max model have completely disappeared, which is very sad, I hope that Apple developers will return live wallpapers from live photo and exclusive for that model live wallpapersand that I have already tried to put several live photos as wallpaper, but they are just like a static picture and more than one tip from apple care support did not help

Android had live wallpapers ages ago and apple is still unable to crack it. The long press in ios to animate wallpaper concept belongs to the stone age. Bored of seeing the same icons and theme in ios. I might as well switch to android as it offers loads of customization and the phone turns magical and lively. If I'm paying 1000 bucks, I want the phone screen to look how I want it not how apple wants it!

Please stop yelling, DEV knows better what you like and what is not necessary for you any more. They just remove live photo so accept it, adapt yourself to new idea bacause probably you don't understand it at all. Of course they could did a pinch gesture (android style) or L gesture or any other gesture to enable edit mode for lock screen insted of hold a touch what was a live photo start but... if they decide to remove it it's just done. Sometimes if you take out you phone from a pocket and realize that lock screen widget was changed due to self auto hold touch and random edit of lock screen, please don't scream it's a new surprise like 1st April so be smiled and happy you just get a bonus.

Purchase photos as Digital Negative Prints processed by hand in Nashville at Third Man Photo Studio. Photos are converted into negatives and printed in black and white on silver gelatin paper using traditional photographic printing processes in the darkroom at Third Man Records headquarters.

The Photos app can detect duplicates of photos in your collection. A file is determined to be a duplicate if it has the same file name and file size as other photos in your collection. A file can be considered a duplicate even if it's stored in a different location.

You're able to browse your collection by date, album, video project, folder, or tags you have applied to your photos. You also have the option of turning on the facial grouping feature as another way of finding photos in your collection. Facial grouping finds similar faces across photos or videos and sorts those groupings into albums, allowing you to tag those albums with nicknames you choose. This feature can be turned on or off in the Photos app's settings page and in the People tab. Learn more about the facial grouping feature.

I am creating an iMovie project with around 500 photos, many of which were taken as live photos on an iPhone. I want to convert these to GIF files and stitch them together with a Ken Burns effect to create more of a movie than I would with still only photos. Can you suggest the most efficient process, please? Thank you for your inspiration, and keep up the good work.

The first time I saw a Live photo, my mouth literally dropped open. It was like a photo from Harry Potter. I had taken a picture of a group of family members and I watched as my uncle quickly pushed his glasses up onto his nose. What?!?! Live Photos seem like animated photos but in reality, they are actually very short videos (about 3 seconds). I generally suggest that my clients turn off this feature unless they have a specific need for it. Video files take up much more room than a single photo would.
