My mother-in-law asked me to look at her iPhone because her pictures were moving. I checked it out and it appeared that they were live photos (moved a little when flipping from picture to picture in photo app and would play when you hold it down). Not that weird but she has a 5S; not a 6S or newer. I checked her camera app (stock apple app) and the live photo button is there and you can take live photos.
My Fiance also has the iPhone SE which looks just like his 5S and he has live photos. Kind of cruddy that he paid about $150 recently on Boost Mobile and I have the much more expensive 6 and have no live photos.

I recently discovered I can no longer even view different frames for a Live Photo. Just as described on the Apple help website, I used to find this option by clicking "Edit" or just by tapping the photo and scrolling down...there was a slider bar where you could select the frame you wanted if you didn't like the auto-detected one. But now it's gone! I tried it on my MacBook Pro, iPad and iPhone...still couldn't find it! I recently updated to iOS 13.3.

It seems, we have to enable the Live button for each and every Live photo again, even if the Photos still seems to be alive, to bring the key frame slider back. It used to be different in the previous system versions. The Live button remained enabled, unless we turned it off.
It is possible to put live photo into simulator, You need a video file, and an image file (because a Live photo is a combination of these two). And then using Photos Framework, you can save the live photo in gallery
The only way I've found is pretty clumsy: Get a live photo into your iCloud photo stream, then connect your simulator to your iCloud account. The live photos will then be available in your simulator's photo library.
As you might expect, the "get a live photo..." step can be tricky--you may need a friend with an iPhone 6s/6s+ to iMessage you one. Although some services like Facebook and Google Photos support Live Photo viewing in-app, they don't appear to support downloading them to your Photo Library while retaining their live-ness.
in ios 16, branded live wallpapers and special ones for the iphone xs max model have completely disappeared, which is very sad, I hope that Apple developers will return live wallpapers from live photo and exclusive for that model live wallpapersand that I have already tried to put several live photos as wallpaper, but they are just like a static picture and more than one tip from apple care support did not help
Android had live wallpapers ages ago and apple is still unable to crack it. The long press in ios to animate wallpaper concept belongs to the stone age. Bored of seeing the same icons and theme in ios. I might as well switch to android as it offers loads of customization and the phone turns magical and lively. If I'm paying 1000 bucks, I want the phone screen to look how I want it not how apple wants it!
Please stop yelling, DEV knows better what you like and what is not necessary for you any more. They just remove live photo so accept it, adapt yourself to new idea bacause probably you don't understand it at all. Of course they could did a pinch gesture (android style) or L gesture or any other gesture to enable edit mode for lock screen insted of hold a touch what was a live photo start but... if they decide to remove it it's just done. Sometimes if you take out you phone from a pocket and realize that lock screen widget was changed due to self auto hold touch and random edit of lock screen, please don't scream it's a new surprise like 1st April so be smiled and happy you just get a bonus.
Live Photos are like still photos, but when you hold your finger down on them, they "activate" and play a few seconds of video and sound. They're like GIFs with sound, and are a fun treat when you're looking back at your photos later. But they'll only work on Apple devices, and if you try to play them elsewhere, they'll just be still photos.

I am very scared now that you said anything uploaded via the plus button resets the creation date. I have uploaded so much that way. I guess I just have to live with my files this way.

The way Live Photos works is to capture a MOV video file every time you snap a photo with your iPhone. The MOV file includes three seconds of video and sound, so when viewed on a supported device, the image seems to come to life.
For one, all that extra data makes for image file sizes that are roughly double that of a standard photo. If you snap a lot of pictures, that can quickly add up and cause you to run short on storage space.
Uploading and playing back Live Photos is only supported for OneDrive personal accounts. It is not enabled for OneDrive work or school accounts. Additionally, Live Photos are roughly twice the size of still photos, and they will take up more of your OneDrive storage space than still photos.
Sharing a Live Photo
When you share a Live Photo in OneDrive, your recipient will be able to play back the Live Photo if they are viewing it on the OneDrive iOS app or on OneDrive for web. Recipients who view the Live Photo from the OneDrive Android app or the OneDrive sync client will see a still photo.
I have users that will be using a supervised iPad to take photos, and they will be transferring them to their desktop through USB. Live Photos are enabled by default, and they show up in the DCIM directory of the iPad as a .MOV file for each photo.
My users arent interested in the Live functionality, so it just adds extra noise that they need to parse through to locate the photos they're looking for, and additionally it complicates the copy-paste process, since they need to unselect the .MOV files.
The main reason people probably use it - to grab the best moment from a still photo. Like maybe somebody blinked just as you were taking a photo. You can adjust it to find a better face when editing the live photo.
Live photos were introduced with iOS9 in 2015 along with the iPhone 6S. Those are composed of a still picture and a small video. The video is always about twice the size of the picture. If you need the live picture, fine. But if you keep both and just need the stills, you increase the space taken by a picture by 300%.
Some of you pointed out that there is an app to do this: Lean. The App is supposed to do exactly this and only this: remove the live picture while keeping the still with all its metadata. So basically do that manual scenario for you. I tried it and faced only problems.
The first time I saw a Live photo, my mouth literally dropped open. It was like a photo from Harry Potter. I had taken a picture of a group of family members and I watched as my uncle quickly pushed his glasses up onto his nose. What?!?! Live Photos seem like animated photos but in reality, they are actually very short videos (about 3 seconds). I generally suggest that my clients turn off this feature unless they have a specific need for it. Video files take up much more room than a single photo would.
iOS will now save the Live Photo as long exposure, but you can always go back to the photo by tapping it and remove the long exposure effect. Swipe up over the photo again and then select Live to turn it back into a simple Live Photo.
Hit the yellow checkmark in the lower right corner of the screen to make your adjustment permanent. Remember, you can always revert to the original photo in your camera roll by going into editing mode and taping the red, curved arrow in the bottom right corner.
However, the long exposure effect for Live Photos in iOS is a great way to get used to and experiment with taking long exposure photos with iPhone, and I hope Apple will further enhance it in upcoming releases.
However, as unique as this feature is, some people find it distracting when they're swiping through their photo albums. Or the Live Photo function was on by default without you even realizing it, and you would rather keep it off.
