I am an economist at the Centre of Applied Macroeconomic Analysis (CAMA) in the Crawford School of Public Policy at the Australian National University (ANU). I am also affiliated with the Arndt-Corden Department of Economics (ACDE) and the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Population Ageing Research (CEPAR, 2018-2024).  I am also a chief investigator at the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council Centre of Excellence in Stronger Investments for Infectious Diseases (STRIDE, 2024-2028). I hold a PhD in economics from ANU, and a master in economics and a bachelor in computer science from Shanghai Jiao Tong University China.

I am broadly interested in macroeconomics, public economics and international economics, and particularly interested in  long-term global economic issues, including global demographic change, international climate policies, and global public goods. Technically, I have been working on general equilibrium modeling for a decade, including computable general equilibrium models, dynamic general equilibrium models, and overlapping generation models. I am also interested in econometric skills especially vector autoregressive models, and also in causal inference using instrumental variables and difference-in-difference approaches. I am skilled at multiple programming languages, and have more than a decade of experience in processing large data sets from global economic databases.

I am also interested in game theory with a particular focus on externalities and public goods. Many international issues including climate change involve strong externalities, and require global collective action.  I am keen on probability theory and the history of economic thoughts, and interested in global history and geography.

I enjoy discussions with students, and have supervised about 30 PhD and master students. I am convening the Crawford School Economics PhD seminars (amazing seminar series).

I have been a consultant for the Brookings Institution, the International Monetary Fund, the Australian Treasury, and a number of large corporations.
