Philosophy

Little Stubbies Learning Centre is committed to nurturing young children to become aware of their emotions and intellectual development. It seeks to provide an educational foundation that encourages our students to develop to their maximum potential. Through fun, meaningful, and collaborative learning experiences that foster creativity and cultural awareness.

Objective/Aim

Little Stubbies Learning Centre has adopted a learning-through-play needs-based approach that recognizes a safe, comfortable environment, that will accommodate the abilities and needs of all children.

Our goal is to provide a community-loving Centre where we can play, learn, and grow together while building security by teaching trust. We strive to give children respect while providing a program that provides children with a multitude of stimulating activities, gentle guidance, and encouragement.

Environment Program Activities

Day Care Program

Morning:

(8:00 am) free play (including art)

(9:15 am) circle time

(9:30 am) morning snack

(10:00 am) outside play

(11:45-12:00 pm) lunch

Afternoon:

(1:00 pm) Quiet / nap time

(2:30 pm) centre time

(3:00 pm) afternoon snack

(3:30 pm) outside time free play

What we do: walks, baking, cooking, dancing, music, water play, science, geography, alphabet, numbers, sensory, dramatic play, fine motor, gross motor, yoga, and life skills. Special Days: Every Friday we allow kids to bring something special from home We have Weekly and monthly themes and calendars.

Teacher Melissa

The Manager/Staff Member is a fully certified Early Childhood Educator. Melissa has been working with children and families since 2005 and has found her true calling in educating children. She has had the opportunity to work in various childcare settings, including Montessori, Nature School, and Free Play-Based Centres. Additionally, she has experience as a family support worker, supervising daycare establishments and assisting in directing daycares.

Melissa’s experiences have allowed her to work with children of all ages and developmental levels. She has supported children facing social, behavioral, and learning challenges, as well as at-risk youth. As a hands-on learner, she is a strong advocate for experiential learning, encouraging children to engage with their learning in diverse ways. She believes it is crucial for a child’s development to have opportunities for growth through challenges and to discover pathways to success.

An avid traveler, Melissa has spent time in youth centers across Canada and abroad. Through her travels, she has developed an interest in the cultural backgrounds of children and how these differences impact their learning.
