Evrol "Blackie" Christian: The Visionary Behind Little Ochie 

Evrol "Blackie" Christian, the founder and owner of Little Ochie Restaurant, is a true embodiment of coastal charm and entrepreneurial spirit. Born and raised in Alligator Pond, Jamaica, Blackie grew up immersed in the vibrant fishing culture of his hometown. His deep connection to the sea and his passion for fresh, authentic flavors inspired him to create a dining experience that celebrated the best of his community’s traditions.  

In 1989, with a simple vision and a lot of determination, Blackie opened Little Ochie. Starting with just a small wooden boat repurposed as a makeshift grill, he built the restaurant from the ground up. Over the years, his ingenuity and dedication transformed Little Ochie into one of Jamaica’s most iconic seaside eateries, attracting locals, tourists, and celebrities alike.  

Blackie’s philosophy is simple: serve the freshest seafood in a laid-back, rustic setting that lets people connect with the ocean and each other. He insists on using locally-sourced ingredients and traditional cooking methods, such as grilling over coal fires, to preserve the authentic taste and charm of his dishes.  

Despite the restaurant’s growing fame, Blackie remains deeply involved in its day-to-day operations. Whether he’s greeting guests with his signature warmth or sharing stories of his journey, his presence is a cornerstone of Little Ochie’s appeal. Beyond running the restaurant, Blackie is a proud advocate for sustainable fishing practices and a passionate supporter of his local community.
