Who is this young lady rider who stopped in the middle of her warm up time to say hi to a little girl? Her name is Lauren Ferguson. She is an amazing CIC3* rider and a phenomenally outstanding trainer living near Louisville, KY. The horse? Well, now, that is a bit of a story in itself.
You see his name is Landretti and he is owned by Greg Tryon. Lauren worked and trained alongside Amy Tryon for several years and after Amy passed away, Landretti went to Kentucky with Lauren to be under her training and showmanship. Landretti, also known as Leroi, is very special to Lauren as he is a link to the heartfelt friendship between Lauren and Amy.

For me, Leroi is special because he was the link for my daughter Alexiea to meet Lauren who is one of the most wonderful, generous people I have ever had the chance to meet. After we arrived home that fateful day in August, 2014, I wrote Lauren an email thanking her for her five minutes of attention towards my daughter.
The 2015 Richland Horse Park Trials will be held on August 20-23. Lauren and Landretti will be there. And my daughter and I will be there, too, in the front row, to cheer them on, muck stalls and whatever else is needed. It will be nothing short of a blast, a true celebration with friends.
You see, folks, Lauren Ferguson is one of the most incredible people I know. I will never be able to truly put into words how I feel when I look at my daughter as she rides these days. The love Alexiea has for those magnificent (and often temperamental! ), 4-legged animals is beyond words.
Mom cradles baby close and poses for a cheek-to-cheek photo with her tiny princess, and dad holds her firmly in his arms and gazes at her with so much love in his heart. The family decided to coordinate their outfits so their photos would all look amazing together AND look great in any room of the house.
When their little one is scooting, toddling, and climbing, it will be so much fun to be able to look back at those earliest days and remember the tiniest fingers, her rosy round cheeks, and her precious, curious expression.
For this photo, we layered neutral tones of ivory, white, and cream together with a pastel pink blanket covered in tiny white pearls. The result is the sweetest photo of their new little girl looking happy and secure in a white-washed, vintage-style wooden basket.

So we put our heads together to come up with several props and outfit ideas that would be perfect for their family and for displaying in their home!

It seems like the older we get, the more we have to reflect on those days when we were at our most vulnerable. We have to look back at the beliefs, habits, and people that shape us if we want to grow.
I poured out the heart of that little girl over the phone. She had needed protection when she was called names, or when someone hit her, or when she was touched inappropriately. She needed to know that whether she was a child or a girl becoming a young woman, she had a right to her body, mind, and spirit.
Her honesty freed me from having to second guess my existence, and it helped me understand the hardship of hers. The mirror I was looking through was no longer foggy. I could see my life clearly; it had texture, color, and clearly defined lines and a bursted pus ball that needed cleaning.
I adore the little girl I once was. She found worthwhile things to enjoy about life as the ground beneath her eroded. She sang, had her own dance parties, liked to play with balloons, and loved listening to Motown music.
Condition your hair on Sundays, or soak your feet in Epsom salts when you get back from work, or go for a swim, or draw before you go to bed, or cook yourself your favorite dinner on Saturdays. Go dance at Ecstatic Dance with your girls on a Saturday.
