I believe that this app can be a wonderful tool to use alongside certain activities within the classroom setting, as well as a great at-home educational tool for individuals who struggle with figurative language.
It can help strengthen and enhance general and receptive communication and help ease general frustrations and some anxieties if someone is presented with a text or situation that they have difficulty understanding.
It could make for very enjoyable practice to more quickly recognize and interpret meaning in what others say, especially when that meaning is not obvious. This removes potential for miscommunication, which of course is a two wag street and often comes from a mismatch in communication style (with autistics preferring direct, clear communication and non-autistics can’t help themselves but be obscure and wrap their meaning up in distracting packages)! Many autistic people love language, puns, etc and also enjoy understanding origins of terms, so having an in depth look at an idiom of the Day would be another good way to engage us!
I believe your app will be an important tool to improve receptive communication, specially in those situations that mostly happened during social communication. By having an app to explain the meaning of an expression, metaphor, etc, autistic individuals can easily access it, understand the meaning, and participate in the conversation.
I believe this app has potential to become a toll that brings confidence to autistics individuals by improving their social participation.
Especially for a limited age group, I can see the app as being helpful in situations where a reader is unsure about a meaning, or if there is no support to help. I think it possibly has more use in the process of reading (e.g. checking on a single sentence/phrase within a larger body of text) than in isolation (e.g. trying to learn the phrases with no other text for context.)
The LiteraLingo app has the potential to significantly impact the lives of autistic individuals by
empowering them to decipher the implicit meanings in expressions, which can often be challenging.
This would enhance their communication skills and boost their confidence in social interactions.
