"Literacy is an achievement that rests on language competence at all levels, from the the elemental sounds to the most overarching structures of text" (Moats, 2010).

My Story
My journey in the Science of Reading began in 1996 when I was trained in the Lindamood-Bell method and worked in a clinic helping kids and adults learn how to read and spell. I went on to work with the author of the 'Pathways to Reading' curriculum to assist with teacher training and coaching while I continued my graduate work at the University of Kansas in Speech Language Pathology. Upon graduation, I worked as a school-based Speech Language Pathologist for 22 years and further developed my knowledge and passion for literacy instruction, assessment, and remediation throughout all three tiers of the MTSS instructional framework and special education services. In 2021, I completed my doctorate at the University of Kansas Medical Center with a focus on dyslexia and professional learning. Since then, I have worked as an MTSS Literacy Support Specialist for the same large, suburban school district. In this role, I supported the district's implementation of a core phonics curriculum (Tier 1), literacy interventions (Tier 2 & 3), and the MTSS process with general education teachers. Currently, I am in elementary administration.
Through my work as an SLP and an MTSS Specialist, I developed spelling and morphology curricula for Tier 1 and Tier 2/Tier 3 work. I wanted to offer these evidence-based supports for educators and parents at no charge, as sometimes, we just need something to get us started. Everything you find on this website is grounded in the science of reading research and written for educators to be able to print and use. There are so many more products and curriculums available on the market than there were when I was a practicing SLP, but I wanted to offer the things I have found to be effective as a place to start for practitioners. One of my favorite things about speaking events/podcast interviews is having parents and educators contact me afterwards, wanting to have deeper discussions about how to further their knowledge, support their students, or just problem solve together. This website is another avenue for connecting us in the science of reading world. With that said, please connect with me on Twitter/X or email me at any time. I'm happy to be a thought partner!
I hope you find the content on this website helpful in your journey in growing your instructional practices and supporting students who have difficulties with decoding and spelling. Keep checking back for new content--I will post things as I develop them.
