Type of Literacy Strategy:

Reading Comprehension (pre-reading and post-reading)

Reading Level:

All Secondary Reading Levels; Based on how the knowledge rating is used in the class, students at lower reading levels or ELs might have more answers that are blank or in the “not know” category. But the goal is that if used post-reading as well, that they will be able to have some idea or know the concept much better to see their own improvement.

Prep Time:

Depends on depth of use. 10-15 minutes for prep of worksheet

Rate Your Knowledge in Use -

• Demonstrate the strategy to students and explain about preparing for lesson.
• Provide handout and say each word out loud as a class.
• Have students work in pairs, small groups, or individually to fill out hand out.
• Have pairs and small groups discuss words then bring to large group for short discussion and any outstanding questions.
• Collet and use the sheets to compare to post readings or to see where students’ current knowledge is.
