Themes that organized the work with the Imagine High staff and students were:
Collaborative songwriting with the students, exploring Indigenous language revitalization and stream restoration as topics for the songs. Collaborative songwriting was organized in three phases:
Songwriting - concept development, lyric writing, music writing
Rehearsing - practicing and fine-tuning arrangements for the songs
Performing - presenting the songs in public
Indigenous language learning used the topic of stream restoration as a basis for learning vocabulary and understanding the Indigenous worldview that the language represents:
Stream restoration learning activities gave students first hand learning experiences of connecting Indigenous language learning in the natural world
Stream restoration learning was an existing program at Imagine High that overlapped with learning language about the land:
Indigenous language learning was incorporated into the existing curriculum for stream restoration
Students had an experiential opportunity to learn about stream restoration and Indigenous language learning in the context of the stream habitat
