If you want a precision tool designed for specific engine oil plugs that requires a secure, spill-free removal in tight spaces, choose Lisle 57180; if you need a versatile, heavy-duty strap wrench set capable of gripping various filter sizes without damaging the housing, choose AuspicoJoy 3xFilter.
• Lisle 57180: Its biggest strength is the specialized T-handle design and extended neck that creates a perfect seal on Cummins-style filters to prevent oil spills. The trade-off is its single-use nature; it is strictly for one specific type of filter thread and cannot grip round cans or different filter styles. This pick is for the mechanic who works primarily on Cummins engines and values a clean, professional job over versatility.
• This pick is for the DIY enthusiast or general mechanic who needs one kit to solve many different problems across cars, trucks, and motorcycles.
The Lisle 57180 is an instrument of surgical precision rather than a brute-force hammer. Designed specifically for Cummins oil filters, this tool solves a very particular headache that plagues anyone working on these engines: the lack of a standard hex head to grab onto. When an oil filter is located deep within an engine bay, often surrounded by other components, reaching it with a standard wrench is impossible. The Lisle 57180 threads directly into the filter itself, turning the entire canister into a handle.
What makes this tool stand out in the crowded world of automotive repair is its focus on containment. The product features a longer neck specifically engineered to seal even better against the filter body. This isn't just about leverage; it is about keeping your garage floor clean. When you unscrew a filter that has been sitting for years, old oil can be under pressure. If the seal breaks unevenly, oil sprays everywhere. The Lisle 57180 allows you to remove the filter from tight spaces without spilling oil because the threads engage securely before you apply torque. Furthermore, the T-handle design provides excellent mechanical advantage, making the actual turning motion easier and less fatiguing on your wrist.
You should buy the Lisle 57180 if you own a vehicle with a Cummins engine or work in a shop that services them frequently. It is also ideal for anyone who prioritizes cleanliness and wants to avoid the mess associated with traditional filter removal methods. However, you should skip this tool entirely if you are looking for a general-purpose wrench. It does not fit standard spin-on filters with knurled surfaces, nor can it grip fuel filters or air intake tubes. It is a single-purpose specialist. If your garage contains a mix of vehicles from different manufacturers with varying filter types, this tool will sit on your shelf gathering dust because it simply cannot do what a strap wrench can. The compact dimensions of roughly 1.75 by 7.25 inches make it easy to store, but its utility is limited to a narrow slice of the automotive market.

The AuspicoJoy 3xFilter represents a different philosophy: maximum adaptability through sheer volume and adjustability. Instead of threading into a specific filter, this set uses a metal strap mechanism that wraps around the exterior of the object. The set includes four pieces, each with a different clamping range, ensuring that whether you are dealing with a small motorcycle filter or a large truck oil canister, there is a strap that fits.
This tool is built for the user who faces unpredictable challenges. One day you might be changing the oil filter on a sedan, and the next you might need to loosen a stubborn fuel filter or perhaps even tighten a loose pipe fitting. The construction is noted as being made of metal, which suggests durability and resistance to the heat and grime of an engine bay. Unlike the Lisle, which relies on internal threading, this system grips externally, meaning it can work on filters that are already stripped or have damaged external surfaces where a threaded tool would fail.
You should choose the AuspicoJoy 3xFilter if you are a DIYer who works on multiple types of vehicles, including trucks and motorcycles. It is particularly valuable for those who do not want to carry a bag full of single-purpose tools. The versatility is the primary selling point here. However, you must consider the physical footprint. It is not something you tuck into a glove box for quick emergency use. It is a workshop staple meant to stay in your toolbox. Additionally, while the strap design is convenient, it requires more manual dexterity to position the straps correctly compared to simply screwing the Lisle tool in place. If you struggle with fine motor skills or have very large hands, the process of wrapping and tightening four different straps might feel cumbersome compared to the instant engagement of a threaded tool.
• Best for specific Cummins engines → Lisle 57180. If your vehicle has a Cummins filter, nothing beats the direct-thread engagement for a leak-free removal.
• Best for multi-vehicle households → AuspicoJoy 3xFilter. With four different size ranges, one kit handles everything from compact cars to heavy-duty trucks.
• Best for minimizing mess → Lisle 57180. The superior seal prevents oil spray during the initial break, whereas strap wrenches rely on the filter being held steady.
• Best for damaged or stripped filters → AuspicoJoy 3xFilter. Strap wrenches grip the outside, so they work even when the filter top is ruined or missing.
• Best for portability → Lisle 57180.
• Best for heavy-duty leverage → AuspicoJoy 3xFilter. The wider metal straps provide broad contact points, ideal for high-torque applications on larger filters.
• Best for beginners → AuspicoJoy 3xFilter. The concept of wrapping a strap is intuitive, whereas understanding the correct threading technique for the Lisle requires a bit more knowledge.
• Best for city driving maintenance → Lisle 57180. For urban commuters with Cummins-based vehicles, the clean removal in tight garages is a significant advantage.
After weighing the specifications and intended use cases, I would buy the Lisle 57180 if my primary concern is maintaining a Cummins-powered vehicle for city driving. In an urban environment, space is often at a premium, and cleaning up spilled oil in a cramped driveway or garage is a nightmare. The Lisle's ability to thread directly into the filter ensures a tight seal that prevents the messy splatter common with other methods. While the AuspicoJoy offers incredible versatility, I prefer having a dedicated tool that guarantees a clean result for my specific daily driver over a generic set that requires more setup time. The Lisle 57180 is the smarter investment for a focused, efficient workflow.
No, the Lisle 57180 is designed with a "Vehicle Specific" fit type that targets Cummins oil filters exclusively. It will not thread onto standard spin-on filters used by Ford, Toyota, or Honda, so you would need a different tool for those brands.
There is a significant difference in mass.
This helps prevent the marring or crushing that can occur with narrow chain wrenches, though care should always be taken when applying high torque.
Ideally, yes, for a complete toolkit. If you have a mix of vehicles, the Lisle handles the specific Cummins jobs cleanly, while the AuspicoJoy covers every other cylindrical filter or component. Buying both ensures you never run out of options regardless of the vehicle in front of you.
