2016 – Present: Senior Technical Advisor TB and HIV, FHI 360, Bangkok, Thailand
Provides technical assistance in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of TB. Focus on MDR-TB including the introduction and scale-up of new drugs and regimens, TB/HIV, and finding missing TB patients. Leads FHI 360 in the Challenge TB project including liaising with coalition partners, national TB programs, USAID missions, the Global Fund and other beneficiaries and stakeholders. Contributes to TB research activities for the FHI 360 global TB program. Provides technical support in HIV and other infectious disease programs in the Asia Pacific Region.
2013 – 2016: Infectious Disease Advisor, USAID, Dhaka, Bangladesh
Provided technical, programmatic and results-oriented leadership to strengthen the quality and effectiveness of USAID/Bangladesh’s TB programming with additional support to USAID and national HIV, emerging pandemic threats, neglected tropical diseases and vaccine preventable disease activities. Provided technical and programmatic support to USAID and its implementing partners to design, manage and monitor a diverse TB portfolio. Specific sub-areas of focus included MDR-TB, public-private mix (PPM), and childhood TB. Provided policy, strategic, technical, programming and budgetary guidance to USAID/Bangladesh, other USG agencies, government counterparts, implementing partners and other stakeholders to strengthen programming related to TB and other infectious diseases. Led the USAID contribution to the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) within the Bangladesh Interagency GHSA initiative.
2005 – 2012: Technical Advisor, HIV Clinician, FHI 360, Nepal Country Office
Provided technical assistance for comprehensive HIV treatment, care and support for adults and children. Directly assisted the government of Nepal with technical components of programming including national guidelines, standard operating procedures and training curriculum development in areas including ART, opportunistic infection s (OIs), pediatric HIV, PMTCT, TB\HIV, community home based care (CHBC), STIs and family planning. Provided ongoing clinical mentoring at the national infectious disease referral hospital as well as at other national ART and PMTCT sites. Provided technical leadership in multiple national PMTCT and ART reviews. Supervised and monitored USAID and DFID funded programs. Lead planning, roll-out and support of the Reaching Across Borders project providing HIV and STI care including ART and CHBC to migrant workers in both Nepal and India. Collaborated with civil society to improve coverage and quality of HIV and TB prevention and treatment services. Helped design and implement a community based PMTCT pilot program and research study. Developed and implemented the first early infant diagnosis program to introduce DNA-PCR testing for HIV-exposed infants in Nepal.
2010 – 2013: Technical HIV Advisor, FHI 360, Asia Pacific Regional Office
Provided ongoing short term technical assistance for HIV and STI programs in Lao PDR, Papua New Guinea, Bangladesh, India, and Vietnam. Developed and facilitated interactive national trainings in STIs, pediatric HIV, PMTCT, HIV caregiver training and positive prevention training. Advised country FHI 360 teams and national governments on HIV and STI issues including guideline revision, treatment and care programs, management of OIs and community-based programming. Delivered supportive monitoring to ensure quality HIV programming.
2012: Consultant, UNICEF, Dhaka, Bangladesh
Developed the proposal for initiation of the first government PMTCT program in Bangladesh, one of Asia’s first “Option B Plus” based programs.
2010 – 2012: Consultant, UNICEF, Kathmandu, Nepal
Worked as lead consultant on revision of national pediatric ART guidelines, national pediatric HIV training curriculum, PMTCT guidelines and infant feeding guidelines. Developed national standard operating procedures on PMTCT. Assessed PMTCT service access by most-at-risk-populations in Nepal, with a focus on women who inject drugs and women who sell sex. Finalized national HIV and nutrition guidelines for Nepal and developed a pocket handbook for clinicians on maternal-child national HIV guidelines.
2010: Consultant, UNDP HIV-AIDS Program Management Unit, Kathmandu, Nepal
Developed standard operating procedures for Community Care Centers serving PLHIV. Conducted field visits to review and assess current centers for strengths and gaps. Met and collaborated with technical working group, government, national NGOs, INGO, UN agencies and beneficiary groups.
2004: Co- Principal Investigator, Botswana Harvard Aids Institute Partnership, Gaborone, Botswana
Co- PI for international AACTG “OCTANE” trial during initial set-up phase. Responsible for the establishment and running of a clinical trial to determine the optimal antiretroviral regimen in women previously exposed to nevirapine as MTCT prophylaxis. Activities include site preparation, hiring, training, community education, ministry interactions, regulatory responsibilities, budgeting, study management and quality assurance.
2002 – 2004: Research Associate, Botswana Harvard Aids Institute Partnership, Gaborone, Botswana
Coordinated the MASHI study, a clinical research trial investigating PMTCT of HIV through antiretroviral prophylaxis and infant feeding interventions to 1,200 mother-baby pairs. Trial included the provision of primary care services including family planning and STI services for five years after delivery to all study participants. Spearheaded the expansion of the study to provide ART for HIV-infected mothers and infants. Trained and supervised physicians and nurses providing ART to both adults and children at semi-rural and urban clinics.
2004: KITSO Lecturer, Gaborone, Botswana
Trained nurses and doctors working in Botswana on PMTCT for the expansion of the government program to enable universal access to treatment, care and prevention.
2000 – 2002: Study Physician, Botswana Harvard Partnership, Molepolole, Botswana
Initiated and managed the pilot site of the clinical research trial, MASHI. Provided clinical care to women and their families in the setting of the southern African HIV epidemic. Trained nurses and physicians on study protocol. Directed community involvement and education pre PMTCT service roll-out. Oversaw and coordinated HIV testing and counselling services at all antenatal clinics.

Provided outpatient and inpatient clinical care including obstetrics (vaginal and operative deliveries) to an under-served population in rural community and migrant health centers. Patient care primarily focused on pediatrics, obstetrics andwomen’s health issues including family planning, STIs and cervical cancer screening/ treatment of pre-cancerous lesions.
