Hi there! I'm Lisa Crowhurst Fisher - a high school resource and ELA teacher. I consider myself very fortunate to have the privilege of being a teacher, and I am passionate about creating engaging and inclusive learning environments where all students can succeed. If you've stopped by to check out my website, I hope you'll find something helpful! It is a work in progress and I am currently preparing some videos and resources for parents and educators.
My teaching philosophy is all about student-centered learning because each and every student brings their unique strengths, experiences, and learning styles to the classroom. I always try to create a safe space where students can let their guard down, take risks, collaborate, and participate. I like to use educational technology and project-based learning; entrepreneurship is a key element of my curriculum and it provides my students with lots of opportunities to engage with each other and the community.
In my classroom, I believe it’s important to use many instructional practices and the best way to do this is using differentiation to ensure that my pedagogy meets the individual needs of each student; this might involve universal design for learning (UDL), flexible grouping, providing scaffolding, and offering choices (such as a choice board) in my assessment methods. By incorporating technology such as Google Apps for Education (GAFE) and Google Read and Write, I’m able to create engaging and interactive learning experiences, as well as provide students with personalized learning opportunities to meet various individual education plan (IEP) strategies, adaptations, and modifications as required.
I have always been extremely committed to professional development, most recently completing my Masters of Education - Studies in Teaching and Learning. My courses included Inclusive Education, Social-Emotional Learning, Learning Differences in Education, as well as many classes focused on Educational Leadership. My ongoing research interests are inclusive leadership, SEL, and TIPE.
