“The purpose of control is to make liquor available to those adults who choose to drink responsibly-but not to promote the sale of liquor. By keeping liquor out of the private marketplace, no economic incentives are created to maximize sales, open more liquor stores or sell to underage persons. Instead, all policy incentives to promote moderation and to enforce existing liquor laws is enhanced.” –Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control
The Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control was created in 1935 and is the agency that controls the licensing and regulation of sales and manufacture of alcoholic beverages. They determine what liquor, wine and beer can be brought into the state and how much it will be sold for. They also administer liquor laws and license on-premise businesses, temporary event permits, manufacturers, beer wholesalers, warehouses and liquor representatives. They are the only agency that may lawfully have liquor products imported and shipped to Utah.
Utah has considerably fewer bars than Arizona and Idaho. Full service restaurants however, are more comparable.
